While most high school students in Orange were getting ready for the Thanksgiving Holiday, one Little Cypress-Mauriceville Junior was preparing to lift her way into a world record. Maegan Fontenot, who last year as a sophomore broke the previous State “Squat†record in the Light Platform Class with a 320 pound lift and the State “Total†lift record of 715 pounds with an impressive 760 pounds, has broken the American and World records for the 114 pound class with a 330 pound squat. Since the petite LCM cheerleader weighed in for the competition at 110 pounds, that means she lifted three times her body weight. The meet was held in West Palm Beach, Florida and while she broke records with her squat, she was not able to complete the bench lifts. “Even though I didn't get to finish the meet, I still had a lot of fun and met people from all over the world,†said Maegan. “Winning is easy; it's harder to lose, is the lesson I learned. I didn't give up easy and even though it was a disappointment not to be able to finish the meet, I still walked away with more than I would have with a gold medal. I met a lot of great people, and learned a lot about myself.â€
