TexasTerror Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 MFFL -- Lamar dropped because they went 1-2 during the week since last Sunday -- losses to Indiana State and Louisville with the win over Texas Tech. I am not sure people that vote took the loss to Indiana State into account in last week's polls, but it resonated in this week's poll. I would not be too surprised by the end result of this week's balloting.

I would not be too surprised by the end result of this week's balloting. The ISU loss was actually on Sunday and we dropped in last weeks poll after loosing to UK and beating Ohio. I can't see LU going 11-5 in conference nor do I see SFA at 12-4. I think both teams will end up with better conference records. LU-13-3 Losses @SFA, @TS & @UTA SFA-14-2 Losses @UTA & maybe @SELA Just one mans opinion!
UNLV Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 We played at SFA last year. Why can't they come here. LU 14-2 in slc... SFA 11-5...
Guest coachacola Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 We played at SFA last year. Why can't they come here. LU 14-2 in slc... SFA 11-5... I agree, but Lamar should be able to beat any SLC team on the road. In 2006 when Northwestern State beat Iowa in the NCAA tourney, they went 15-1 in conference. They also beat Miss State, Oklahoma State, and Oregon State, which is probably why they got a 14 seed. If Lamar can go 14-2 in the SLC, along with a loss to Memphis and possibly Utah Valley, they'll be 23-7 and in great shape for the SLC tourney, and could get a 14 seed in the NCAA tourney. Still a long ways to go but I like our odds.
TexasTerror Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 The ISU loss was actually on Sunday and we dropped in last weeks poll after loosing to UK and beating Ohio. Yes, but consider these people may have ignored the results. LU losing at TXST? Very intriguing...I can see LU splitting with SHSU, if our team continues to grow in the right direction. I do not see a Marlin team getting swept by the Cards, but you guys are presently the class of the conference, so perhaps...
Guest mffl Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I agree, playing AT Sam is a tough place for anyone to play. The students get into it and as SFA showed (and their recent OOC home win streak), it is a tough place for anyone to play.

I do not see a Marlin team getting swept by the Cards, but you guys are presently the class of the conference, so perhaps... You barely beat Jarvis Christian at home! I see LU and several others sweeping Sam this year. Sam may return the favor next year though as LU will be young, but full of underclassmen talent (Miles, Harper, Custer, Williams, and Nabors returning). As for Tx St. that run and gun style on a good night at home against our run and gun could lead to a close one and since they are home team I give them the early edge. Now that may drastically change as the season progresses.
UNLV Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 LU will sweep SHSU as well as most slc teams. Currently no slc team can beat LU, Although SFA is getting back on track and will be capable of beating LU come conference time.
Guest coachacola Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 SFA plays Arkansas this weekend and at Texas Tech Jan 1, so we'll see how good they are against these teams. After a home game against SELA, Lamar plays at UTA and at McNeese. That will be a good test for Lamar to begin conference play, with UTA supposedly a conference favorite and McNeese always plays Lamar tough. SFA and TAMU-CC appear to have the best defenses in the league, but they don't compare to Louisville, Kentucky, and Memphis. The teams in the SLC that are good offensively don't have very good defenses (SHSU, Nicholls, Texas State), and the teams that have the best defenses (SFA, McNeese, TAMU-CC) aren't very good offensively. Lamar has the most balanced team in the league so they are capable of winning every game but they'll have a few off nights.
