KFDM COOP Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 WO-S' Robinson earns All-State honor Van Wade The Orange Leader WEST ORANGE — West OrangeStark senior defensive end Kevin Robinson keeps receiving nice honors. The District 21-3A Defensive Player of the Year earned First Team recognition on the 2008 Associated Press Sports Editors All-State Team that was announced on Tuesday. Robinson was the anchor on defense for the 21-3A champion Mustangs (10-1). He was part of a unit that allowed just 91 points and 147.4 yards per game, including just 58.5 yards a game on the ground. The Mustangs allowed just 20 second-half points all season. Robinson was an excellent pass rusher and was bullish against the run as well. He finished with 104 tackles, 16 of them for losses. He also caused four fumbles and recovered two. He also recorded seven sacks and had 10 pressures. Robinson’s Mustang teammate lineback Robert Jiles, who also had a superb season, made Honorable Mention All-State. The only other player from 21-3A that landed on the elite unit was Silsbee quarterback Jeremy Johnson, who made Honorable Mention. The Offensive Player of the Year went to Tyler Chapel Hill running back Matthew Tucker, who rushed for 2,260 yards and 27 touchdowns in just nine games. The Defensive Player of the Year was Giddings’ defensive back Xavier Daniels, who had 85 tackles and 10 interceptions and returned four kickoffs for touchdowns.
