MIF04 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 The SE Texas Sun Devils have hired a new coach: Glenn 8) ;D Cecchini. Coach Cecchini is the head coach for perennial national powerhouse, Lake Charles Barbe HS. While at Barbe, Coach Cecchini has guided the Bucs to: · 5 Louisiana 5A State Championships (including 2008) · 13 consecutive District Championships · Nationally ranked 15 of the past 16 years (including #1 in 1999) Baseball America called his program “One of the Nation’s Top 10 baseball programs of the decade.†In addition to being named National Coach of the Year, his wife (Raissa Cecchini) has been named the National Assistant Coach of the Year. She joins her husband as part of the Sun Devils’ staff. As far as select baseball goes, this continues the Sun Devils’ tradition of finding and hiring the best coaches to work with their players. Coach Cecchini is not only one of the best coaches in the country -- he also brings to the program contacts with college programs and Major League Baseball. This will allow the Sun Devils to continue to do what they do best: teach the game and assist their players in their goal to reach the next level. Matt Thompson remains the Head Coach and Director of Baseball Operations. Along with Coach Cecchini, JR Bardin and Jimmy Neale also coach within the program. Both the Sun Devils 18u and 16u teams will travel to Tucson AZ the week after Christmas to play in the UnderArmour Winter Classic. These games will be played at the spring training site of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox. The Sun Devils will return home and play 2-3 weekends before their players return to their HS team.
bkatdog Posted December 26, 2008 Report Posted December 26, 2008 When the games start give us some highlights or updates. This board is starving for some REAL baseball news.
LLDad Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I was wondering the same thing. I'll take a guess. He is involved with the Sundevils Orginization...he is a moderator on this website... and he feels this may promote or give a little more attention to his orginization???

RedBarn Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 Sounds like some people who are on outside looking in might be a little jealous???? Seems to me that this is good info for baseball people. The guy is a top notch coach (one of best in country), who decided to throw in with a local organziation that has nationalpresence. Why isnt that worth being "pinned"? Good grief...don't you guys have something better to do?
westend1 Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 It's just strange. Plenty of coaching hiring announcements have been made all over this board, and I have never seen one pinned. Not even high school football, which certainly carries more interest than this.

My son is 9 and stands no chance of breaking their lineup.

My boys are 10 and 8. I do have a 15 year old daughter but she is weak when it comes to hitting a curve ball. ;D
