LamarStatesports Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team opens 2009 on the road with a Jan. 5 scrimmage at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, followed by a Jan. 7 conference game at Jacksonville College. The Seahawks have had five weeks to heal and think about their 6-6 performance so far this season as they prepare for their 16 remaining conference games. Three players, including leading rebounder Adrian Fonentot, sat out the final 2008 game with injuries as Lamar State slipped to .500 on the season and 0-4 in Region XIV play after a 99-83 home loss to Blinn College. Delgado, which plays in the Louisiana-Mississippi Conference, compiled a 3-19 record this past year. The Dolphins are 4-12 so far this year. Jacksonville, which finished next to last in Region XIV in 2008, is one of three teams that are undefeated in conference play this year. The Jaguars, ranked just outside the Top 24 Division I teams in the nation, are 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action with wins over San Jacinto, Angelina and Blinn. Lamar State’s first 2009 home game will be Wednesday, Jan. 14, against Lee College. Other up-coming opponents include Paris Junior College (currently ranked No. 7 in the nation) and Tyler Junior College (No. 21).
