Cool Hand Luke
Below are players nominated to the crack staff of SETXsports. Pitcher- Catcher- 1B- 2B- SS- 3B- LF- CF- RF- DH- Your roster below: C-- Jake Ponder, BH; Stefan Leger, LCM; Jacob Felts, OF; Ty Parker, JAS; Anthony Babino, NED; JT Hallmark,EC INF-- Tony Carmona, BH; Jordan Pitts, NED; Cody Clifton, BH; Stefan Cloren, LCM; Jude Vidrine, NED; Matt Hicks, BC; Conner McDonald, WB; Ross Foret, WB; Chaz Bruce, VID; Blake Hubbard, BC; Kane Benoit, PNG; Jordan Darnell, WOS; Austin Stone, PNG; Taylor Eaves, HF; Joe Robertson, BC; Alex Rocha, BH; Chad Sims, Vid; Jerin Spikes, PNG; Kirby Bellow, NED; Josh Skinner SIL OF-- Randy Musgrove, KIR; Kolby Henscey, BH; Heath Padgett, BH; Matt Johnson, LCM; Tim Barry, LCM; Chris Mulener, WB; Trae Hester, VID; Jace Statum, OF; Hagen Daigle, HF; Jeremy Pinder, HF; Randy Musgrove, KIRB; Amir Jalai, PNG; Hunter Hagel, VID; Blake Reyenga, PNG; Zack Peevey, OF; Sean O'Connell, KEL P – Brandon Hillin, Buna; Josh Dean, NED; Tommy Henk, HUf; Kirby Bellow, NED; Trae Hester, VID; Jerin Spikes, PNG; Matt Johnson, LCM; Frank Smesny, DAY; Nathan Svoboda, WB; Dallas Brown, LCM; Matt Woods, PNG; Blake Snyder, BC; Tyler Erickson, LUM; Cody Laird, NED, Matt Hicks, BC I got curious to see who on the above list had actually stoodout in 2008's season. So, I went back and reviewed the All District Teams I could find(24-2A, 21-3A, and 22-4A) and and the All Southeast Texas Team. Below are the players from the above list that made both the 2008 All District 1st or 2nd Team for their respective districts and the 2008 All Southeast Texas Team(1st Team or Honorable Mention): C-- Stefan Leger, LCM; Jacob Felts, OF; Ty Parker, JAS. INF-- Matt Hicks, BC; Jordan Pitts, NED; Chaz Bruce, VID; Kane Benoit, PNG; Kirby Bellow, NED; Joe Robertson, BC. OF– Trae Hester, VID; Jace Statum, OF. P – Brandon Hillin, Buna; Kirby Bellow, NED; Trae Hester, VID; Matt Hicks, BC. Of the remaining players the below listed made 1st or 2nd Team All District in 22-4A, 21-3A, and 24 -2A: INF-- Dallas Brown, LCM; Stefan Cloeren, LCM; Blake Hubbard, BC; Jordan Darnell, WOS; Chad Sims, Vid; Jerin Spikes, PNG. OF-- Randy Musgrove, Kir; Amir Jalalai, PNG; Hunter Hagler, Vid; Blake Reyenga, PNG. P-- Josh Dean, Ned; Jerin Spikes, PNG; Blake Snyder, BC; Cody Laird, Ned. There are some players that keep being mentioned that are absent. Doesn't mean they are not good players who will probably have good seasons but they haven't proved it yet, while the others evidently have. GGLB
Haven't been around baseball much lately, but the story is, the Babino boy is the catcher to pick. He is quick behind the plate, can make calls and has a great rep with the umps. He has caught for Hillin, Hicks, and Bellows, he knows their individual style of pitching. Babino can switch hit, throw and has speed, which means he can ultimately play any position. His work ethics, attitude and the way he backs his teammates is amazing. The boy plays as if his life depended on it no matter what the score or the inning. You can't help but play your hardest if you have him on your side. He has played with, Pitts, Vidrine, Hagler, and Jalalai. Don't get me wrong, Babino still has a lot more growing pains to go thru. Babino is a tough act to crack. Pitcher Hillin, Hicks, Bellows Catcher Babino, 1B Bellow 2B Vidrine 3B Pitts SS Hicks LF Hagler CF Jalalai, Statum RF Hester DH Cloren, Leger
BudTugley
Chris Muellner made All-District OF and was named Offensive MVP for West Brook last year as a Junior. He hit over .400. With his "sweet swing" I would expect nothing less this year. No area All-Star team would be legitimate if he were not included. Alex Henton - is a power hitting OF for Kelly that was named fisrt team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State. Connor McDonald was named first team All-District SS as sophomore at Kelly but now plays at West Brook. Sean O'Connell (OF), Doug Prewitt (2B) and Dan Mulvaney (OF) were all named to All Tournament team for Kelly at the State Championships. Kelly finished second to Craig Biggio's St. Thomas team. BudTugley
I just returned from the Perfect Game Underclass Showcase in Ft. Myers Florida. I would like to report: Jace Statum LHP/OF from Orangefield posted the fastest 6o yard dash time of all underclass attendess (91 players). He ran a 6.7 on a "slow, muddy track". Statum also hit the first pitch he saw out of the park! This is on a former MLB Spring Training site. Jacob Felts RHP/C from Orangefield, Trae Hester LHP/OF/1B from Vidor, Kirby Bellow LHP/1B from Nederland, Connor McDonald 2B/SS - West Brook, Will Henderson OF/3B - West Brook, and Aaron Morgan 3B/C/1B/OF/RHP (the kid can play anywhere!) - West Brook all had good showings at the event also.
