Guest coachacola Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Roccaforte said he attended Memphis' regional semifinal and championship games in Houston and the national semifinal and championship contests in San Antonio last season. Roccaforte sat in a hotel room with Calipari as he viewed video in the two days between the national semifinal victory against UCLA and the national final but didn't offer advice. "I just spoke when spoken to," said Roccaforte, whose team was an 87-62 loser the only other time it faced Memphis, Dec. 28, 2006, in Memphis. Roccaforte called tonight's game a "guarantee game," which usually translates to an easy victory for the host school and a check with many zeros for the visitors. The pay-for-play agreement is set so that Memphis does not need to face LU in Beaumont as a payback for LU's visit to Memphis. Roccaforte said there is no multi-year deal in place for LU to face Memphis beyond this season, but he hopes to play Memphis every season after this one. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/local/roccaforte_to_be_one_of_five_former_calipari_assistants_to_face_old_boss_this_season_01-02-2009.html

I hope they keep playing Memphis and it would be nice to get them to Beaumont one day. I suspect the only way we get Memphis here is if we win a few NCAA games and become a Butler/Davidson/Gonzaga type program. Then Memphis coming to BMT and loosing would not be a bad thing. One can only dream!
UNLV Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 a quote for Terror... "MEMPHIS VS. THE SOUTHLAND The Tigers have an all-time record of 15-1 (.938 winning percentage) versus schools in the Southland Conference. Memphis has played eight -- Lamar, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas-Arlington and Texas-San Antonio -- of the Southland's 12 institutions. Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Central Arkansas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are the four Southland programs the Tigers have not played. The lone Memphis setback to a Southland school was the loss to Lamar in 1968-69. The last time the Tigers played a Southland Conference school was the 2007-08 season when Memphis defeated Texas-Arlington 87-63 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Mar. 21, 2008.
