Guest coachacola Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 I'm surprised that Nicholls State got a vote and UTA isn't getting any. Lamar needs to beat both UTA and McNeese State this week to make it into the top 25. I've also noticed that the NCAA tourney "bracketology" sites have SFA/Southland as a 14 seed. That wouldn't be a bad seed and with the right draw the SLC could pull a first round upset like NW State did a few years ago against Iowa as the 14 seed.
badndn Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 The problem I see is that LU hasn't beaten anyone on the list or anyone that received a vote yet! I figure the SLC to get a 14 seed because there are several conferences with really bad records going into conference play and invariably a 20+ win team will lose a conference tournament and auto bid to a 16 seed.
Guest mffl Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 Look at Nicholls State getting some votes! We'll have 5 chances to beat 4 teams getting votes this week. I see UTSA is getting a few more than the 1 it got last week and UVSU also got a vote.

LU hasn't played anyone on that list either, but Lamar only has 1 bad loss, and that was to Indiana State. (By bad loss I mean losing to a team with a low rating.) Lamar just needs to keep winning and they'll be fine. This poll doesn't mean much. Getting into the NCAA tourney no lower than a 14 seed is a worthy goal for this team.

As far as us not playing any of those teams henceforth the reason we haven't beaten them, that's my point. We haven't really beaten anyone just yet to warrant us being MM top 25. Most of those teams in the top 25 have beaten at least one other team receiving a vote ala SFA beating Drake and NDSU.
