Is Jacoby Turner the best on ball defender in the area??

Why does it make a difference when evaluating a defensive player?  Silsbee plays some zone, I've seen Orangefield do it quite a bit this year.  I know HF, Bridge City, and WOS all play lots of zone too.  You can't be a DPOY if your team plays zone?  Because a team plays man to man and one plays zone then the player whose team plays man should have the edge in defensive awards??  Seriously??  You can either defend or you can't.....it doesn't matter what style of defense you play in.

Don't you think that teams play zone because they don't have enough players that can play man and a zone puts players in a position to help. Not saying Turner can't defend and it certainly allows him to take more chances but I was saying that there is a difference between on ball defender and someone pressuring the ball in a zone. you are also right everyone plays a zone so you can't use that as criteria

Even in a zone, at some point, it becomes a form of man to man, and Turner does it well.  His speed and superior quickness give him an advantage over most and the team he is on or the defense his team uses is largely irrelevant.

Any good man defense uses zone principles and any good zone defense uses man to man principles.

When a team is playing man to man and someon drives to the basket and players slide over to help....they are now playing the ball which is a zone principle.

When a team is playing zone and the man within a particular players zone has the ball then he applies man to man principles.

Also, I don't buy the ball pressure thing because I've seen some particular zone defenses (everyday) that apply all kinds of ball pressure. ;)

Hey 10gwh-  Now that you have established how ignorant my remarks are, I was just wondering if you consider those of Nostradamus to be equally ignorant?

I will admit that I have not seen anyone from 21-3A play except for HJ and Silsbee, but no one on Silsbee's team plays "D" the way that Turner does.  I am anxious to see if anyone from WOS, BC, OF and HF can play "D" the way that he can.  I will voice my opinion after the 1st round of district is complete.

Lazeek, you only been to one of Silsbee game. Pheal Hill has got to be equal if not better on the defensive end against Turner. He doesn't have the height turner has but he plays like he's the biggest guy on the court. I can tell you this. He scores majority of his points off of defense. He may not put up 30+(TUrner does) like somebody mention in a few games but that only because we also have other players that can score other than him. (Only the Big three usually score for HJ). Silsbee has at least 8 deep that can score on any given night. Hill usually gets the most rebound, steals, force turnovers and score most fast break points for Silsbee.

That is why I said I would wait until after the first round of district, but I have seen Hill play and he is very good, however I do not feel that he has the speed and quickness that Turner has.

#44 from BH is a good player but he did not have 9 charges in their meeting with HJ

and someone said earlier that all Jacoby Turner had on Pheal Hill was height?  Jacoby is only about 5'8 or 5'9, Pheal Hill is about the same

jacoby 6'

It really dont matter cause Hill took it to the basket and scored on a 6'3 guy all night long tonight........... ;D
