CHRISTOPHER DABE: Cavness at head of LU football alumni group

"We had a tremendous meeting," Cavness said about the Dec. 27 gathering that included more than 60 former players from the mid- to late-1980s at a Houston-area restaurant.

Cavness said the purpose of the group is to raise money to be donated to the school's athletic department and football program. The first such fund raiser is a late-May golf outing and crawfish boil.

The plan is to give additional support to LU football coach Ray Woodard and his program, which will sign its first high school recruiting class Feb. 4 but will not play a game until 2010.
