LamarStatesports Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team will look to improve their conference record Wednesday, when they face Kilgore College in a 7 p.m. home game in the Carl Parker Center. The Seahawks (7-9 overall, 1-6 Region XIV) got their first-ever victory as a Division I team this past Wednesday, when they posted a 61-60 road win over Navarro College, one of the top teams in the conference. The loss was the second straight for the Bulldogs (13-5, 5-2), who were undefeated in their first five Region XIV games. Lamar State freshman forward Adrian Fontenot led the Seahawks with 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Josh Washington added 10, while D.J. Stearns hit for nine points and Jason Williamson and Lincoln Charleston each added eight. Kilgore (7-12, 2-6) is coming off four straight conference losses, the last one Saturday at Lee College, 65-59. Lamar State head coach Jerre Cole was pleased with his team’s effort against Navarro and said they will take a similar approach against Kilgore. “Obviously, we hope the win at Navarro will help us build more confidence and allow us to play more complete games from here on out,†Cole said. “Kilgore has played about the same as us since the Christmas break by not finishing off games and losing some close contests. But they are a very defensive-minded team with a couple of guys who can seriously hurt you on the offensive end of the floor.†Lamar State returns to the road Saturday against Region XIV rival Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, La. The Seahawks will be back in the Carl Parker Center next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference matchup with Tyler Junior College.
