Lazeek Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 I do not want to pour gas on a fire, but let me ask this question. Why is Silsbee being blasted for beating a team so soundly? I am just asking that is all. Nothing but pure jealousy!!!! Teams like Silsbee, HJ, Ozen and Kountze that have had a great basketball tradition are always ridiculed for some of the scores that they put up. It is ridiculous. GET OVER IT!!!!!! I totally agree, Lazeek. But then why does Bullets question us? Isn't he HJ? He went to HJ and played football.......kicker!!!!! He was too small to play basketball so it is just bitter about it!!!! ;D ;D ;D
AggiesAreWe Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Actually HJ beat Hardin in 1991 132-25!!!!!!!!! Ouch!!! Maybe CB should have called the dogs off a little earlier. See, I thought I was correct on that. I just couldn't remember who they beat but I knew it was around 100 points. Actually 107!

How in the world did Troup and Barbers Hill keep you guys under 60 points? ;D btw, you guys see that 151-44 score?
Lazeek Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 :o :o :o :o I would dare anyone to try to compete with that team!!!!!!! Well of course anyone but Groesbeck!!!! > > >
Lazeek Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Was the story on that Tarkington score?
Guest nostradamus Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Troup: They won the 2A State Title that year and were absolutely LOADED!! A young man by the name of Ed Jasper was one of their starting posts. He went on to have a good career in the NFL. They had a 6'5" swing man that was an absolute STUD! That game was in the Huntington Tourney and it was a known fact that us and Troup were easily the best two teams in the bracket and yet somehow we ended up in the same half and met in the semi-finals (I won't go into that........it's a whole other thread)......anyway, they had us down the whole game.....they slowed it down and had the guards to do so........we hit a 3 at the buzzer to win and the refs wave it off and call it no good! Oddly enough, the old Huntington gym was one of the few to have a red light behind their goals when the buzzer went off........still have the tape and the shot was out of his hands before the red light went off!!!!!! Too bad there was no replay back then!!! Barbers Hill: It was the 3rd time we played them that year and the second round of district.......and surprise surprise.......the game was AT Barbers Hill. They basically refused to shoot the ball......spread us out and held it. We were down 5 at half. We missed a shot to win the game and outscored them 9-2 in OT. I would guess, to the best of my memory, that less than 10 of the teams we played actually played us that year.........the rest just spent four quarters trying not to let us get 100. In all seriousness, Liberty dogpiled and celebrated at mid-court in OUR gym after we beat them 88-33!!! You would have thought they just won state because they kept us under 100.
AggiesAreWe Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Was the story on that Tarkington score? I thought that was the game that I was thinking about. After looking over the scores that Nos posted, it was the Hardin game that I remembered. 166-51!!!!! Bullets talking about us averaging 26 points a quarter then scoring 32 in the fourth. HJ averaged over 40 a quarter in that game!
UKCats Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 What I find interesting is look at the score of the first tarkington game and the second tarkington game. Can you guess which one was in HJ?

I remember that Troup team. Jasper was a biggen inside. The '6"5 swingman was the man though. I'll remember his name before the day is up. He could fill it up.
Guest nostradamus Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Let me tell you about the game at Tarkington and you'll understand the score discrepancy. Tarkington, like many others was refusing to play basketball and just not shooting at all. So our coach told myself and our other shooting guard to quit playing defense. We were not to cross half court.......this was in the second quarter (early). So for several possessions we would press and when the ball crossed half court, myself and our other SG would stand at half court and wait. They played 5 on 3 and still refused to shoot the ball. So our coach tells a third player not to cross half court. They still refuse to shoot. So our coach tells a 4th player not to cross half court and, by this time their fans are beyond angry that they are still refusing to shoot.........so finally, playing 5 on 1 they decide to go shoot and attack our 1 defender......they make 2 passes and have a point blank lay up and MISS IT!!!! Our one guy gets the rebound throws a baseball pass to the other end for a lay-up and from that point on they decided to play. Soooo....despite them holding the ball for almost a full half we still scored 100 at their place.........when they came to our place the second round they just showed up and played........and that is the reason for the score discrepancy. NOT THE REFS as was IMPLIED! ;D
Guest nostradamus Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 AAW, One Mr. Greg Austin!!! STUD!!!!

Guest nostradamus Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 They won back to back state titles starting in the '91-'92 season.......they were LOADED!!! I was guarding Ed Jasper on the press in that game.........he just took one of his giant meat hooks and wrapped me up with one hand while they lobbed it up to him and he caught it with his other hand.......at 6'1" and 155 lbs........there wasn't crap I could do about it!! :-\
