KFDM COOP Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Nederland girls 2, Goose Creek Memorial 0 BAYTOWN -- The motivation for Julie Johnson's Lady Bulldogs in this one arrived last Friday in a mini-game at the PN-G tournament when Goose Creek Memorial defeated Nederland 2-0. Given another chance to face their opponent, the Nederlanders (5-2-1) arrived much more focused for the rematch, outshooting the new Baytown-area school 18-5 and winning 2-0. "Yes, they were disappointed last Friday that they did not win that mini-game and they played a really good game tonight," Johnson said. Austyn David scored midway in the opening half off a corner kick from Layken Richard. Jacie Bell doubled Nederland's lead 27 minutes into the second half after taking an assist from Megan Melancon. The Nederland defense played well enough that sophomore goalkeeper Bianca Garza only had two assists. Nederland will invade Fort Bend County this weekend to compete in the Lamar Consolidated ISD girls tournament. The Lady Dogs will compete on Thursday in mini-games with fellow pool competitors Houston Reagan, Waller and tourney host Lamar Consolidated.
