KFDM COOP Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Indians blank Silsbee, 3-0 PREP SOCCER The Port Arthur News SILSBEE -- Peter Zimmerman and Aaron Lasseigne took turns at spying on standout Silsbee offensive weapon Matthew Deaver and Port Neches-Groves found enough offense to easily dominate a 3-0 boys soccer win Tuesday night at Tiger Stadium. Coach Don Sandell's Tribe (2-3) scored twice in the first half and once in the second half with the goalkeeper duties divided between sophomore Brady Martin in the first half and freshman Micah Murdock in the second. PN-G clearly took enough shots to win by a larger margin, leading in shots on goal, 21-5. "We weren't as sharp offensively as we would have liked to be," Sandell said. "I thought Silsbee's aggressiveness slowed us up some but our defense did a good job of shutting down Deaver. We tried to never lose sight of him because he's so elusive." Junior left-footed midfielder Greg Flores hooked in a corner kick from the right corner for the game's first goal in the 15th minute. Fifteen minutes later, the Indians' Doug Benton assisted Ryan Golmon, who eluded a defender and fired a shot over the goalkeeper's head. Tanner Worley padded the lead to 3-0 with an assist from Zimmerman with 12 minutes left in the game. PN-G's Sandell credited Silsbee (2-2) and its new head coach Seth Durant for playing such a competitive game. The Indians play Friday at noon in the Brenham Showcase tournament against a new high school, Boerne Champion.
