The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team returns to the road Saturday for a 4 p.m. conference game at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, La.

The Seahawks slipped to 7-10 overall and 1-7 in Region XIV play Wednesday, when they lost 74-53 at home to conference rival Kilgore College.

Lamar State’s offense never got on track in the contest, shooting an anemic 29 percent from the field.

Freshman forward Adrian Fontenot led the Seahawks with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward George Williamson added 11 points.

Bossier Parish and Lamar State both are in their first year in a Division I conference, so it’s not surprising that the Cavaliers (10-8, 0-8) are coming off four straight conference losses since the first of January, the most recent a 98-93 loss Wednesday at Lee College in Baytown.

Lamar State head coach Jerre Cole expected a better performance from his squad after their first-ever Division I victory on the road this past Saturday,  a 61-60 upset of Navarro College, one of the top teams in the conference.

“We seem to play much better on the road. So, despite the letdown that occurred against Kilgore, we have reason to be optimistic about our chances Saturday,†Cole said. “Bossier Parish is a very athletic team that had a solid pre-season. But, like us, they are finding the first year in Region XIV pretty tough going. It should be a good game between two teams that are struggling.â€

The Seahawks will be back in the Carl Parker Center next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference matchup against the No. 9-ranked team in the nation, Tyler Junior College.
