This has been discussed before, but it's never too early to talk about next year.  From ESPN.com ...

Nuno Muandumba, 5-10 170 lb, PG, position rank #37, Scouts grade: 87

July, 2008: Muandumba was arguably the top senior point guard in camp (2008 West Coast All-Star) after getting the nod over Robert Smith in their encounter in the "Best of the Best" game. Muandumba exhibited the athleticism, skills, and savvy to be considered a legitimate point guard at the mid-major level. He is a tad on the short side but he makes up for it in his overall feel for the game. He is rarely out of control and plays the game at an even keel. His passes in transition are impeccable and he possesses that extra gear to separate himself from his opponent. His jump shot is tight out to the stripe and he is automatic with the pull-up at the elbow. Defensively, he slides his feet very well and does an excellent job of keeping his opponents in front of him.

He's averaging 21.7 PPG, 42% 3 pointers, 84% FTs, 7.2 APG now as a senior

Jonathan Garza, 5-10 160 lb PG, position rank #86, Scouts grade: 80

October, 2008: Garza is a true point guard that has great speed and quickness. He is a good decision maker in transition and runs the team in the half court. He is very unselfish and makes his teammates better. Garza creates opportunities with his penetration and can make the open shot from three off the catch and dribble to keep the defense honest. He must improve his strength but will be a terrific lead guard at Lamar.

Stan Brown, 6-8 212 lb PF, position rank #161, Scouts grade: 77

December, 2008: Brown is a long and strong athletic finisher. He scores from drop off passes created by guard penetration, offensive rebounds, and by running the floor in transition. He is extremely raw but very active. He is a good post defender and shot blocker on or away from the ball. Brown also gets his share of defensive rebounds. Brown along with Antonio Johnson gets all the garbage baskets for Whitney Young.

Joshua Wesley, 6-5 240 lb PF, position rank #168, Scouts grade: 76

November, 2008: Wesley is currently a defensive end on the mighty Hightower football team. Wesley is a high energy, undersized power forward that competes on both ends of the floor. He is a good rebounder that can also score on power drop steps on the low blocks. He must continue to work to improve his skill level but will be a force inside right away with the effort and intensity of his game.

Osas Ebomwonyi, 6-8 195 lb PF, not ranked, Scouts grade: 40

No evaluation available at this time.

There's also E.B. Davis, the 6-4 JUCO guard that played his freshman year at UTSA.

I'm thinking for next year Nuno will challenge Miles for the PG position, and Garza may play a lot.  Hopefully both Nabors and Nwevo will come back next year 100% healthy.  Stan Brown and Wesley should get a lot of playing time although they look to be raw.

Updates on Osas Ebomwonyi and Jonathan Garza of Pflugerville:

Up in The Ville it was a different story as Pflugerville had to hold off Bowie's late charge to keep home court advantage in this ultra competitive district . Pflugerville was led by 2009 PG Jonathan Garza, a Lamar University signee who had 12 points. Big 2009 6'8" Osas Ebomwonyi also a Lamar signee is rounding into shape for Pflugerville. He had 7 blocks and is getting stronger every game after coming back from a broken leg early in the season.

Ebomwonyi has just made a huge block, his 4th of the game. Garza who has had a quietly efficeient game for P'Ville hit 1-2 from the line and now has 5 points but has done a good job protecting the ball. Another great block by Ebomwonyi. He has really asserted himself down the stretch. Lamar is getting a steal in this kid.

Neither player are great scorers but Ebomwonyi looks to be a good defender and shot blocker.

Still need another BIG.......someone to help out Custer and Nwevo.  A 6'10 project would be nice!!!

I agree, especially since Roc likes the smaller, quicker guards, having a couple of 6-8 to 6-10 bigs in the middle would really help them compete against the bigger teams.

Well I am excited about alot of the players that we have coming in... I think we will be more competitive each year... I sure hope that we can get a big fella... Next year we will be a little bigger with Nwuevo Custer and Nabors... but we still need a new 6'10" big man.

Pfluggerville High faced the task of entering last Friday night's matchup against Austin Westlake having to place their undefeated district record to a test. On the road, head coach, Mike Murphy and the rest of the Panthers finished off the Chaparrals, 77-69, to continue their winning ways in district 25-5A. Sitting at 7-0 through the first half of district hasn't been easy, but the Panthers are gunning for their sixth straight District Championship.

Smith is averaging 14 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

"We are playing really well right now," said Murphy. "We are in a very strong district with Austin Westlake, Bowie and Akins. We are in first, followed by Bowie, Westlake, and Akins, all within a game of each other. I feel for us to have a chance to win it this year, we will have to go undefeated, a perfect 14-0."

Mitchell leads the Panthers with 15 ppg and 3 assist and 3 steals a game.

The schedule looks to favor Pflugerville on paper and having won games on the road at both Westlake and Akins helps home court advantage against two of the better teams in the second half of district. But the Panthers still will travel to Bowie, where Murphy knows it's a tough place to win at.

"Bowie maybe the best team in our district," adds Murphy. They are playing the best basketball overall. Coach Collier has them playing great defense and they have excellent shooters on offense that can really score. Luckily we won't face them till February 6."

Murphy starts three seniors, 6-foot-8 forward/post, Osas Ebomwonji, point guard, 5-foot-10, Jonathan Garza, and 6-foot-4 forward, Brian Todd. With all three seniors stepping up and being leaders for the team, it's the two underclassman that are taking the scoring roles for the Panthers.

"Both Demetrius Smith and Deon Mitchell are producing for us on the perimeter. Just Friday night, Demetrius had 22 points, eight rebounds and four assist. And Deon finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Deon will be the point guard of the future, but right now he is playing combo."

With a 24-3 record for the season, Murphy feels that the guard play is responsible for the year's success along with their defense.

Ebomwonji signed in the early period with Lamar.

"We have quality guard play. Garza is solid and never seems to make a mistake with the ball in his hands and Todd is so aggressiveWe aren't very big, and we were without Osas till district. He is close to a 100%, but we have slowly worked him back in. It takes him a little time to get loose because his conditioning is still building. He is our primary shot blocker, rebounder and we look to him getting out there and changing opponent's shots."

Murphy continues about the Panthers' defense.

"We play pressure defense and it really works. We are only allowing 53 points a game on defense and I shown the team that we will win if don't let the other team score more than 50. That is a team goal for us. We want our defense to get us to the next level, which is playing for a state title in the "Drum". There is still so much for us to learn, but we are doing a good job"

Coaches are never satisfied and always look for ways to improve. Murphy tells his team that there is one thing that they need to accomplish.

Garza, also a Lamar signee is dishing out over 3 assist a game and 7 points.

"Consistency is a key. I tell our guys that taking care of home court is a must, and with four out of our last seven being at home gives us a great chance of winning."

Playing in district 25-5A isn't easy and the Panthers prepared themselves in non-district play for their tough road leading into the playoffs.

"We played a tough schedule and had some big wins to give us confidence. We beat Angleton, Klein Forest, Killeen Ellison, and Judson (only loss of season). We've had three losses and one was to Ellison which we have had to play three times this year in tournaments. The other was a overtime loss to San Antonio Madison, and to Katy Seven Lakes. We were without Todd and Osas, due to them taking the SAT."

Looking at the district standings through January 26,

Pflugerville 7-0

Bowie 6-1

Westlake 5-2

Akins 4-3

Hmmm, I seem to remember someone tried to give Roc a big man from the islands this season but Roc turned the offer down........hmmmm!

They'll need a better reason for being released from a signed LOI than the Cardinals losing. JMO.

Well I wonder if he is going to land at any Division 1 this year.

hMMM? tHEY haven't signed any binding contracts yet have they?

Some have, November is the Fall signing period. Roc has never had a problem recruiting good players to losing schools.

Is Nwevo even coming back?  I know he wants to, but I hear Roc isn't particularly interested in bringing him back.  He graduates in the spring,  right?  down 1 scholarship, do you think Roc will give that scholarship to someone a little more productive?

According to NickKBTV, Nwevo is looking forward to next year.  Unless Roc is bringing in another big post player we'll need him for next year.  Roc does have two 6-8 freshmen coming in but they probably won't be good enough to replace Nwevo next year.  Having Custer and Nwevo handle the post position won't be too bad.
