LamarStatesports Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team returns to the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur this Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference game against Tyler Junior College, the No. 8-ranked two-year college team in the nation. Lamar State, competing in its first year of Division I action, continued to descend in Region XIV standings Saturday, dropping to 1-8 as they absorbed an 84-57 pounding at Bossier Parish Community College, the other first-year team in the conference. Freshman forward Adrian Fontenot led Lamar State with 30 points and 11 rebounds, his ninth double-double performance of the season. Freshman forward Jacoby Joseph added seven points and six rebounds. But there wasn’t much else in the way of offense, with the Seahawks shooting only 32 percent from the field, including missing all 14 of the three-point baskets they attempted. The Seahawks are 7-11 overall as they prepare to face North Zone leader Tyler (17-2, 8-2), which pulled out a hard-fought 76-71 win Saturday at Lee College. The Apaches’ only losses this season are to Lon Morris College and Navarro. The Seahawks are on the road Saturday for a 4 p.m. conference matchup at Trinity Valley College in Athens.
LamarStatesports Posted January 28, 2009 Author Report Posted January 28, 2009 The Tyler Junior College Apaches demonstrated why they are the No. 8 juco team in the nation Wednesday as they topped Lamar State College-Port Arthur, 89-69, in a Region XIV conference game at the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur. The Apaches pulled away from the Seahawks with three-point baskets early in the first half and led by 13 points, 42-29 at halftime. Tyler controlled the ball early in the second stanza, pulling away to a 20-point margin. But the Seahawks came alive and cut the lead to six points at the 16-minute mark. But that just woke up the Apaches, who had four players in double figures - Byron Maxon (22), LaBree Sledge (18), Tyler Jefferson (14) and Alan Branch (11). Freshman forward Adrian Fontenot led the Seahawks with 22 points. Sophomore guard Jemel Douriso and sophomore forward George Williamson each had 14 points. Tyler moves to 18-2 overall and 9-2 in conference action. Lamar State drops to 7-12 and 1-9. The Seahawks will be on the road Saturday for 4 p.m. Region XIV games at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.
