What happened to the guarantee that he was going to UT this semester???  The story I got at the Lamar game on Saturday night is that from a very reliable source that Brown will enroll at LSC-PA next semester and play for the Seahawks!!!!  LSC-PA or UT????  Wow is all I can say!!!!  This kid has ruined his college career with his poor attitude!!

He hasn't ruined ANYTHING yet, he has yet to even enroll in a college course yet, therefore, not starting his college "clock".  He has an opportunity to re-invent himself at home and I am sure there will be some challenges, nevertheless he IS a TRUE Division I talent.  Attending the University of Texas after junior college is STILL a viable option, but, if he takes care of business there will be other MAJOR D-I's calling for his services. He has a lot to prove, but not to any fans. He must prove that he will be able to make the transition mentally and make it on the next level...The kid is a real game changer, and most coaches know this.

True, however they have taken some and I am quite sure that if he does what he is supposed to do, they will take him when he is able to be there. If not, Bill Self (Kansas) LOVES juco players..Scott Drew (Baylor) takes them as well...Jeff Capel (Oklahoma) would love a seasoned combo juco guard in two years. and so on, and so on..get my point? Rick Barnes is no dummy, and I am certain that he knows that other Big 12 schools (Big 10, SEC, Big East, WAC, Pac 10, ACC too) will gladly pick J'Covan up if he passes on him...gladly.  He gets it together, he will be able to pick his school. Again.

Key phrase, Dickie, "He gets it together . . ."  Hasn't that been the issue (problem) all along.  How are you betting; does he get it together, or does he do what he has done before?  There has been a thread on this forum about Coaches beating players.  While I

don't like nor agree with beating a player it sometimes seems to me that some Coach ought

to hit Mr. Brown "up-side" his head and get in his face and tell him:  Mr. Brown, you are an athlete of immense talent but you have a mind about the size of a pea.  You are not the next Lebron James - you're not even the next Dick Vitale (meaning you).  If you are here to play ON THIS TEAM then I am for you and with you.  If not, you have probably had your last chance.

While I agree with your plan to let him know where he stands within the realm of the program, I don't think that insulting him will do any good! ...He DOES need for his next coaching staff to lay down the law due to his past actions, BUT I would not jump the gun on that until it is apparent that he has yet to grow up. See, he IS a year older, and sometimes with age comes some maturity. Sometimes.  He has to understand what is at stake for him next season. Has to. You never know. He could really shock this area and live up to his expectations, or.....make some people say "I told you so!" and he becomes what some think he would become..A waste of talent. We shall see, but the verdict has not been given yet, and no one here can be judge nor jury...We shall all see.

He's home grown talent. Everybody knows how he is or was. It's a good move for a young program to make. The kid deserves a chance. He's not in school because of academics, not his behavioral problems. My question is this to the LUPA coaching staff: Do you have any players good enough to keep with Mr. Brown and take a seat because of his talents?

True: JBrown isn't in school at UT because of academic problems.

Also True: JBrown isn't playing anywhere because of his attitude and past behavior, but especially because of his not taking care of business in his classes at Memorial HS.

It seems to me that most four-year school coaches (Rick Barnes included) really are not as concerned right now about if JBrown is coming to play for them as they are concerned that he might go to play for one of their conference rivals.

JBrown has been at most of Lamar State's home games this season. Every Region XIV coach who comes here goes by and sweet-talks to him about coming to their school.

Needless to say, I'm sure Coach Cole doesn't want to see him playin for any other Region XIV school.

But as far as JBrown playing for the Seahawks, that might be a mixed blessing.

Anyone who has seen him play knows that he is an extremely talented basketball player who can control the outcome of games. But in the games I saw him play, he was not a team player. He was the star. Once he got the ball, that was it. He was taking it to the basket, regardless of whether he had a good shot or not.

That worked just fine in high school. But college (even JUCO) ball is a different animal. These games are won with strategy, ball movement, focus, intensity and control. Those aren't words that decribe JBrown's game.

The questions that will have to be answered no matter where he goes are:

1. Is he tough enough to put 110 percent into working hard in practice and in games?

2. Can he tailor his talents into an offensive scheme that is designed to get the ball to the man with the open shot, rather than getting the ball to the "shooter," as he was in high school?

3. Can he put his anger away and refocus that energy into positives for the team, or will he continue to be periodically suspended from his team for bad behavior, or continue to be ejected from games on technical fouls he brought on himself?

4. Will he listen to his coaches and do what they say?

5. (and most important) Will he go to class every day and do the required work to get at least a C grade so he can stay eligible to play?

If the answer to ANY of these questions is "No," JBrown will find himself back in the stands watching college games rather than playing in them.

I'm one of the people who would like to see JBrown suceed. But naturally, I don't want to see his name on the roster of another Region XIV team.

From what I'm told, he has a lot of academic challenges that he must overcome before he'll be playing for any school. A junior college might be able to help him get past those hurdles.

I really don't care whether or not he plays for Lamar State. I just would like to see him grow up and Take Care of Business so he can make use of the impressive basketball talent he certainly has.

I've seen JB play many a time. I've seen him T'd up many a time..........deserved every one and then some. He makes you want to cry cuz he ain't never gonna get to a major D1 school. Someone said he's not a team player. Wrong, he is when there's someone else on his team who can shoot. He's never been on such a team. I've seen him play at PAM when he was passing it off when he should've been forcing shots more often, because that gave PAM their best chance at winning. He has yet to play at a level where anyone could stop him much less slow him down. If he's not hid own worst enemy, his handlers/whisperers are. I'd call that a toss up. IMO he'll never ever play at a major D1 school. One reason: he cannot read and write. He will never qualify for acceptance to majot D1 school.

My comments aren't related to basketball. It's about a person's life and future. I'm very active in the AAU basketball scene. I see a lot of kids from different backgrounds which means I see several up and coming J. Browns' from around the country. Brown may not realize it yet, but he was put on this earth for a reason and he already has a  strong testimony to share. Just maybe one day he will began to share it with the people who really need to hear it. Maybe this is his true calling for the future.

MAN!  This was a low blow, but I think he would play at a spot down on 9th Street called "The Y" First... He is not a BMT kid. This kid is one year removed from high school so his career is not over yet.  He will need to work hard and adjust his attitude.  Sometimes these life situations force you into maturity.  I have seen alot of kids take the hard road and come out OK.  He has chosen that route, now lets see how he comes out.  Time will tell!
