Guest coachacola
Talk about a small starting lineup: Dawkins, Miles, McThay, Harper and Hall. ย At least we have a couple of guys over 6 feet tall. ย Replace Dawkins and McThay with Nwevo and Nabors and you have next year's starting lineup. badndn
Custer starts next year, not Nwevo. Remember Nwevo didn't even play in conference action last year! Maybe the team stopped off in Vegas for a "Slump Buster" on the way to Utah!ย ;D

Lazeek
It is either Custer or Nwevo starting or a "true freshman" or a D2 transfer starting at the 5 next season.

Or a juco transfer that we don't know about. We didn't know Jay Brown was coming until mid July of 2007.
Guest abovetherim
I don't look for all the guys Roc signed in the fall to make it on campus. Maybe one reason he never released the names of those who signed LOI's. I will stay on board with Roc two more years then if there isn't progress made in the program it may be time to look elsewhere. Lazeek
I have already fallen off board......hopefully they will give me a reason to get back on!!!!ย Let me restate this......I am frustrated with the coaching staff as a whole.ย You have injuries and there is nothing that you can do about it.....that is part of the game.ย The part that blows my mind is that we do the same thing over and over again........MAKE A ADJUSTMENT and if it does not work then MAKE ANOTHER ADJUSTMENT!!!!!ย They do nothing and hope that things will change on there own.ย It will not change until they decide to change it or until LU makes a change.ย I like these coaches as people but as coaches they are no better than Mike Deane was when he was here and at least Deane got his players to graduate!!!!! Guest abovetherim
Graduation rates aren't the problem for me. I hate to watch Lamar lose and we are losing more than we are winning. I believe 5 years is enough time to turn a program around. Lazeek in two years I may be joining you.
Lazeek
If LU does not make the SLC tournament this season then there will be people calling for Roc's job after what the team did last year.ย Although I am frustrated I am not ready to start calling for jobs.ย
Guest abovetherim
I am giving a little due to Nabors injury. We all know he was a all-conference type player. Some of these close games could be going the way of the Red and White if he was healthy.
Lazeek
They have been without him all year and have regressed!!!!ย Look at the non-conference schedule and they looked great and now they are losing to teams like McNeese, UTA, etc.ย They should not be losing to some of these teams. Guest abovetherim
I dislike a few things about Roc but I'm sticking with him for at least two more years. Then if they are playing like this I won't be in his corner any longer. I believe every coach deserves at least 4-5 years. That is whether I like the coach or not. lu cards
no one is more frustrated than me but roc's still our guy.i like the changes made this off-season by bringing in a guy to work the grades(honea) and getting tic to recruit.just gotta give it some more time.if things arent better in 2 or 3 years then i forsee roc going back to a big time program as an assistant.i hope he's here for a long time. tyree
I haven't been on this post for awhile, but I am still absolutely behind ROC...because he bleeds Cardinal Red. By the way, he doesn't know me. But Jimmy Simmons does...and I was a cheerleader for him to be President when I never thought that would never actually happen. I'm sure glad it did. The end-result speaks for itself. ROC is proven in many respects...I don't need anymore out-of-town elitists trashing Beaumont, Texas like we've had in the past...we are what we are...he's one of us...but even he can't hit 3's from the wing when he's coaching. This is not a prototype Roc/Tubbs team...other than Dawkins, we have no shooters...everybody's worried about the inside game...why?...have any of you looked at our 3-point percentage? Geez...lets see how do against Utah St, from the 3-point line..any takers?...25%...20%...15%...? I bet we do better with rebounds.
DP#1FAN
I wonder how long Lamar U. will let this go on. I think there is going to be some pressure applied.
Guest mffl
I wonder how long Lamar U. will let this go on. I think there is going to be some pressure applied. There is already pressure here. Mike Deane said in an article on ESPN.com (around the past year so), that the pressure to win at Lamar is just as hard to deal with than the pressure at Marquette. Where at Marquette your expected to compete in the Big East and make the NCAA tournament. In the SLC with Lamar, we expect to dominate it because the fondest memories people have of our program is when we dominated SLC competition night in and night out, even if it was around 20 years ago. Guest coachacola
I think this is the 11th season for Bob Marlin at SHSU.ย He won the regular season championship in 2000 (his 2nd year) but lost in the SLC tourney, and won again in 2003 (his 5 year) and made it to the NCAA tourney.ย His teams in 2001 and 2002 went 16-13 and 14-14. This is Roc's 3rd year and he won a share of the regular season championship his 2nd year.ย This year the team will probably end up somewhere around 15-15.ย Next year's team might be a little better, who knows, but it will be a young team.ย With all the young players coming into the program will LU win the championship his 5th year? My point is SHSU hired an assistant coach and he's had some success but has taken some lumps, but he now consistently wins, although his teams don't dominate and have only been to the NCAA tourney once.ย If Roc follows the same path will that be good enough for Lamar?ย Is winning 20+ games and maybe going to the NCAAs every 5 or 10 years good enough? I think between the injuries, the loss of a scholarship, a win over Texas Tech, and a good group of freshmen coming in (Nuno Muandumba and Stanford Brown are McDonald All-American nominees), Tubbs will give Roc a few more years to prove he can elevate Lamar back to the top. badndn
I have to say I like the young guys he has brought in. I like the direction he appears to be headed with more 4 year guys and building some continuity. Hard to argue with the production of freshman like Miles and Harper. The reason I think people are point at the inside scoring is because teams are gaurding McThay and Dawkins much tighter this year and making them have to take tougher shots from outside. Thus the dismall shooting percentages. That only opens up when we can dominate down low and can work some inside/out. We get no respect down low and rightfully so. Smaller guards are easier to shutdown from outside.
Guest mffl
Roc needs a 6'9 240-250 muscle player like a Joey Dorsey who is a beast down low who can get up and down the court. I think we'll be surprised by this year's recruiting class though. I didn't expect Harper to be the player he has this year, and having Hall back next year is a big plus if he keeps elevating his game the way he has been. geezer
Everyone including ROC needs to remember that until arriving at LU he never coached a game and it shows.ย Even with the injuries there are three close games that you can point at where Lamar got out coached and to date ROC is not acknowledging any responsibility.ย As for recruiting two years ago we needed one point guard.ย This years team has three and he has two more on the early list for next year both under 6'.ย Speed can compete with size but it has to be significantly quicker.ย Lamar is not quick enough and stands around to much on offense to be 3 to 6 inches shorter per position.ย The blow out games came with the opponents having someone 6'3" or taller as point guard and defending Dawkins.ย Shooting percentage goes down quickly when you can't get a good look at the goal.
