The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team will look for their first wins of the 2009 season this Friday and Saturday at the Cowtown Classic Tournament in Fort Worth.

The Seahawks are 0-2 after losing twice at home this past Thursday to Temple College.

On the opening day of the tournament, Lamar State will play two junior college teams from the Division II Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, facing Fort Scott Community College at 10:45 a.m. and Independence Community College at 4 p.m.

Pairings for the tournament’s second day will be determined after Friday’s action.

Both of the Kansas teams will see their first action of the season at the tournament.

Last year, Fort Scott was 17-25-1 overall and 11-9 in conference, while Independence posted a 6-38, 3-17 record.

Lamar State head coach Vance Edwards said injured starting centerfielder, Hannah Godina, may be available for limited action. Godina went down with an ankle injury in the fifth inning of the second game against Temple and has a bone chip in her ankle that will require off-season surgery.

The Seahawks’ next home date is Monday, February 23, when they will host a doubleheader against Louisiana State University-Eunice.
