So long to "The Stage"...and from it's open, UT-Arlington could potentially be the nicest facility in the Southland.

The University of Texas at Arlington has received clearance to begin work on a $73 million special events center on its campus, a project officials say will provide a place for its sports teams to play and a wide array of other community events.

At their meeting in Austin today, the University of Texas System Board of Regents approved allowing the school to begin design and development of the new center, according to the university. The center planned for the northeast corner of campus will be 190,000 square feet and have 6,500 seats.

It is set for completion by spring 2012

The Montagne Center probably will not see a major upgrade before 2012. I believe that is when they are scheduled to renovate Vincent-Beck.

I'm sure the UTA facility will be the nicest in the SLC until the Montagne Center receives a facelift and by then "maybe" the Cardinals are in a different conference.

You'd think a school with 25,000 students would build an arena that holds more than 6500.  From what I gather UTA is concentrating their efforts on becoming a major research institution and not focusing on athletics.

and there's nothing wrong with that.
