KFDM COOP Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 Ozen 65, PN-G 48 PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves Indians could not pull off the upset. Even with Ozen's Willie Jefferson, a 6-7 senior forward, suspended, the Tribe could not muster enough defensive energy in the second half to claim a much needed victory. Holding onto a seven point lead going into the second half, Ozen outscored the Tribe 26-14 in the final 11 minutes of the contest. PN-G had the Panthers lead trimmed to four points with about three minutes left in the third. But that's when the wheels came off, according to head coach Pat Abel whose team fell out of the playoff race with the loss, as they dropped to 15-15 overall and 6-7 in District 20-4A. At 6-7, the Tribe trails 8-5 Central by two games with one game remaining, making it mathamatically impossible for PN-G to crack the postseason.
