KHSAlum400 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Waiting to hear TopDawg's or "unknown123456789's" analysis of what went on in this game. Much closer than I expected too.
TopDawG52 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 kountze came out flat.. started a different line up with 1... D smith 6 ppg 8 apg 2 J turner 5 ppg good Defense 3 R walker 15ppg 4 D tealer 8ppg good defense and nice rebounder 5 M williams 17 ppg all around best player... we did not apply the normal pressure we started off in a sort of 1-2-2 Defense somethin new and also played some halfcourt defense i think the coaches started this lineup because of Defense (that is what you have to half to win in the Playoffs... most of the scoring comes off the bench with the such players as Zay Mcdaniell david johnson jack mcknight and tyrece smith... we got up as much as 30 but just let Warren hang around nothing to worry about the boys are getting ready for the showdown with Anahuac which i think we be a hugh booster whoever wins having to meet up with New Wavely early..
whsalum Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 This Kountze club isn't as good as some of the past clubs. They are playing about as well as they can but are a lot smaller on the defensive side than in years past and don't shoot the ball as well as they have over the last several years.I think they will win a playoff game or two but I dont think they make the regional tournament this year.I think Anahuac will win the seeding game but I haven't looked at the UIL bracket yet.So I really can't predict how deep the Panthers will go,both clubs will struggle against New Waverly.
TopDawG52 Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 I'm going to go out on a limb... i will compare this years team to the team two years ago Kountze 07 shooters- C.J. Busby and Cameron Powell Defensive Specialist- Fred Boykin and Jamesky Sabaeron Ball Handlers- Freddie Haynes and Fred Boykin Shot Blockers- C.J. Busby Scorers- C.J. Busby. Cameron Powell and Fred Boykin(Getting to the Freethrow line... Kountze 09 Shooters Zay McDaniel, David Johnson and Jack McKnight Defensive Specialist- J.J Turner and Milton Williams Ball Handlers- Domingo Smith Shot Blockers - Roman Walker(at times) Scorers - Milton Williams and Roman Walker... Kountze 07 was better at just playing the game. the guards were getting to the basket getting fouled and knocked down open shots if you gave it to them.. the overall best thing they did was take care of the ball thanks to a trendmous pg in Freddie Haynes... now kountze 09 is the more quicker team and better shooting team but they lack the pentration from the guards and just knowing the game of basketball.. the only thing i see stopping kountze 09 from a deep playoff run is freethrows or not playing smart Basketball limiting the turnovers... the Defense will be there and the talent has always been there.

Dawg I usually respect your opinion but your evaluating this club with your heart and not your head.Look at your matchups here position by position. The 07 club was night and day better than this group and alot bigger.I've seen this years club several times and they just don't shoot the ball very well.Kountze has always beat people with a tough full court defense. The teams that handled the pressure in the past(EC-with Tramain)always played them tough. The team with Powell and Busby were state champs and this years group while pretty solid is a long way from that caliber. They do have a young club so they may grow in to that type team but they aren't there yet.
TopDawG52 Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 whsalum i'm going to have to say this Kountze team 09 is not as near as good as 07 but i can bet the bank that they shoot the ball alot better than the 07 team. yes they were alot bigger lets look at it at a respective.. you have kountze 07 PG Freddie Haynes -good slasher/ sometimer shooter-made the team go... SG Fred Boykin- Defense and Slasher--- ok Shooter at times.. SF Jamesky sabaeron--- Defense (only reason he started as a Jr.) PF Cameron Powell-- moved down to the post during the playoff run ( Great Shooter) C C.J. Busby --- 6-6 you bets to believe he could shoot (best Shooter on the team and probly the district at the time...) kountze 09 PG Domingo Smith Does not Turn the ball over.. SG Zay McDaniel only a Soph Shoots lights out... better shooter than F.Boykin SF David Johnson they call him white chocolate---Boy Can shoot the lights out...better than Sabaeron PF Milton williams Is a small version of C. Powell Banger if he was as tall as cam would be almost as good.. C Roman Walker can shoot the ball but have not come along so far this year... as i say Kountze 09 shoots the ball better than Kountze 07 anybody that follows kountze basketball knows this. Kountze 07 would beat kountze 09 about 40 or maybe 50 if they are shooting the ball well.. because of Size and The ability to get to the Rack... Better Shooting Team= kountze 09
whsalum Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 Dawg, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.I follow a lot of high school and college ball (probably watch around 35-40 games a year)and try to evaluate the clubs that I see.I saw the 07 club ALOT as they were in our district that year.I even saw the seeding game and the 2 games in the drum and that club was special.Night in and night out they could light it up.This years group I have seen 4 times and they have struggled each time I've seen them. They are normal for a high school club, they struggle shooting against the better defensive teams while the 07 club could shoot it against anyone. The 07 club would hang 100 on ya on any given night and did it on a regular basis.I don't mean any disrespect to this years team but the 07 KHS club was something special.

I think Anahuac will win the seeding game but I haven't looked at the UIL bracket yet.So I really can't predict how deep the Panthers will go,both clubs will struggle against New Waverly. whalum, If Anahuac wins the seeding game, Kountze will have a much easier road to Tyler than the Panthers. If Kountze loses, like you're saying, they will face a 3rd place 24-2A team, an overrated Newton team, and possibly Corrigan-Camden/Woodville for a trip to Regionals. The loser of the seeding game will have a much easier road than their counterpart. But, who plays to lose, right? To end the speculation, this year's team is NO WHERE NEAR the 06-07 Kountze Lion team IMO.
whsalum Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 E.C. Beat Ktz. In 07 (-; Yes they did that's why I mentioned the seeding game because they split. However Kountze won the state title that year.In my opinion the team that I saw at the drum that year was one of the best 2-a clubs I've seen.
whsalum Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 KHSAlum 400,I totally agree with you.I hadn't looked at the UIL brackets, that's why I didn't comment on which team would go deep in the playoffs. My question was about comparing the 2 clubs in 07 and 09 and there is NO comparison.
aTmfan06 Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 E.C. Beat Ktz. In 07 (-; But we did win state that year:)
KHSAlum400 Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Here's a little video I found of the '07 Kountze Lion team FYI. Once again, this year's team is NO WHERE NEAR the 07 team... This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up
aTmfan06 Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 The 09 team is not a better shooting team!! lol
TopDawG52 Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 Ok i rest my case. everyone is in title to their own Opinion.. I know if you asked Coach Joubert he would let you know the only Consistent shooter he had on the 07 team was C.J. Busby and Cam Powell until he had to go down low in the playoffs. name some other shooters i'm missing because i can't think of none of them.
