Lamar Cross Country Has Strong Showing at Cougar Classic

Lady Cards sweep top three spots

HOUSTON - The Lamar University cross country team opened the 2006 season Friday night at the Cougar Classic, taking the top three spots in the women's relay and third, fourth and sixth in the men's competition.

The meet was a relay format. The men's teams ran an eight-mile race with each team member running two miles twice. The women's teams ran a four-mile relay with each team member running two miles once.

The top three teams for each race received a t-shirt.

For the women, the tandem of Amanda King and Stacey Monteau captured the top spot, running a 22:50. Renee Graham and Karesse Letherman grabbed second place with a time of 22:52, while Clerc Koenck and Mary Johnson finished in third place in a time of 23:03.

On the men's side, Frank Bwambale and Ewan Simpson paired up for a third place finish in a time of 39:07, while Danny Shaw and Austin Turnbull grabbed fourth place with a 39:20. The team of Aaron Bramen and Ben McBride finished in sixth place, running a 39:45.

The Cardinal cross country team will be in action again next weekend when they return to Houston for the Rice Invitational.
