The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team will be on the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference game at Blinn College in Brenham.

Lamar State is 8-16 overall and 1-14 in Region XIV action after letting a win slip away Saturday at home against Angelina College.

The Seahawks played a flawless first half, leading by as many as 17 points at one juncture.

Lamar State was up by eight points, 46-38, at halftime on the strength of sophomore forward George Williamson’s 16 points, which including four three-pointers.

Angelina came out more focused in the second half and held Williamson scoreless.

But the Seahawks continued to lead until the three-minute mark and ended up losing, 60-57.

Blinn (19-7, 9-6) is coming off three straight wins, including road victories over Trinity Valley Community College and Jacksonville College, the No. 1 team in the conference.

Lamar State plays its final home game of the season Saturday at 4 p.m. against Jacksonville College.

"Unlike the more "know-it-all" people on this discussion board, I prefer to wait for results before I start commenting."

1-14 isn't results enough?

Thanks man, you just made my point. There isn't a juco team in your conference which would beat a low major DI. Yea, a team could get lucky and win one but there is no way on a consistent basis a team from Region XIV would beat Lamar. Keep dreaming.

Oh, and good luck......

BTW, I'm a LSC-PA alum. You sure aren't making me real interested in driving out to PA and watching the Seahawks play.

You have no idea what you are talking about. 1. The LU men have been to the Sweet-Sixteen. 2. The women have made it to the Elite Eight.

Now, if I wasn't at my job I would continue in this debate.

In the next five years if you still don't have dorms on campus LSC-PA will still be at the bottom of region XIV.

Now, please think for a second. I'm a LSC-PA alum and possible future season ticket holder and you are debating something that will never happen.

It is against NCAA rules for a DI team to play a junior college.

I wish nothing but the best for the Seahawk program.

I totally agree LU is really down this season but in the late 70's and early 80's the Lamar University basketball program was respected around the country. Too bad you are probably too young to remember.

"Nobody is begging you to come see the Seahawks play. But if you haven't seen them play this year, then you really don't know what you're talking about."

I wasn't around to see the Civil War. Does that mean I can't make a comment about it? It not, I hope you aren't an educator.

Just a small part of an article in the PA News.

Davis and Kea shared in the school’s most shining moment, a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 1980. And, but for a late sinking spell against Clemson in what became a 74-66 loss, they would have played UCLA for a spot in the Final Four.

I'm impressed with your knowledge of ancient history. That was 28 years ago.

I won't disagree about Lamar State's future if we can't find housing for recruits. But as I mentioned before, this is a program in its infancy -- five years and improving every year.

The difference in that five years is Don Bryson's first team in 2004 (which he also had only three months to put together) suffered through a 0-15 drubbing by teams from Region XIV.

Although the current Seahawks are 1-14 in conference play, they aren't being manhandled by the Region XIV teams, and as I earlier mentioned, should have won four or five of the games they ended up losing.

If the Seahawks had stayed in D-III ball, their record likely would be well above .500. But we wouldn't be able to attract the level of talent we got this year. We will need even more talented players (plus a big guy and a strong point guard) to make a dent in the conference next year.

I guess you missed your reading classes. I never said that LU would ever play a juco team. In fact, I said I couldn't happen. I just reacted to your blanket dismissal of the Seahawks program.

If you want to talk about the 70s and 80s, please consider that I am a graduate of the University of Houston, which couldn't sell out Hofeinz Pavilion when we had Akeem Olajuan, Clyde Drexler and the Phi Slamma Jama crew.

Just because the Coogs were mighty once doesn't make them a successful program now. The same goes for Lamar University.

"Reading classes?" I was a nursing major and graduated with a 3.4 GPA. I see you are a typical spin doctor. The reason I mentioned LU's 1980 sweet-sixteen appearance was because the Cardinals have been very good. You forget last season they were co-champs of the SLC. Lamar will make the NCAA tournament before LSC-PA makes the NJCAA tournament.

If you are the SID for LSC-PA then why attempt to drive a wedge between the programs? Can't I cheer for both? You and DV are the only ones I am familiar with at LSC-PA. Bashing a team I grew up cheering for isn't a way to get me or my friends (yes I have a few) to attend a few of your games.

I believe LSC-PA and the SE Texas Mustangs have similar attendance figures. Anyone in the stands would be beneficial.

Nice write-up. I just might make a 4PM game. The only reason I don't see LSC-PA being more competitive in region XIV is not the fault of the players or coaches. They don't have the facilities at this point. In another 5 years maybe they will. As for LU in the SLC; I personally hate it. It is not a good DI athletic conference and hurts the Cardinals in a lot of areas.

I'd be thrilled if LSC-PA and LU both won their conferences. I'm a SE Texan and proud of it! I pull for all the teams in the area.

Now, it's after 3AM and I'm working until after 7AM. If you care to rely you'll have the last word.

Have a blessed day!
