KFDM COOP Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 Lamar Beats Host George Mason 3-1; Lady Cards Post 2-1 Record at Tournament Senior Buchi Okoh was named tournament MVP and junior Molli Abel was also named to the all-tournament team. Sept. 2, 2006 FAIRFAX, Va. - Junior Molli Abel posted a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs to help Lamar University post a 3-1 win over host George Mason Saturday night in the final match of the Brion's Grille/Patriot Invitational. After dropping game one 19-30 due in large part to a minus-.139 hitting percentage, Lamar rebounded to win three straight games by scores of 30-28, 30-27 and 30-26. The Lady Cardinals hit .216 in game two and an impressive .289 in game three. The Lady Cardinals posted a 2-1 record this weekend, defeating Campbell on Friday and losing to Central Michigan earlier in the day on Saturday. Senior Buchi Okoh was named the tournament's MVP and Abel was also named to the all-tournament team for Lamar. Lamar improved to 2-4 on the season and will play in Tennessee-Chattanooga's Tournament Friday and Saturday. The Lady Cardinals will play the host Lady Mocs Friday and close out the tournament with matches against Eastern Kentucky and Birmingham Southern on Saturday. In addition to her double-double, Abel posted a .290 hitting percentage and totaled two blocks. Okoh pounded down 13 kills, recorded a .292 hitting percentage and totaled six blocks. Adrianne Meengs led LU with 34 assists and added nine digs. Andrea Hamilton chipped in with 13 digs. Jaqueline Kohler and Rebecca Walter both recorded double-double's to lead George Mason, who suffered its first loss of the season. Kohler had 18 kills and 15 digs and Walter added 13 kills and 12 digs. Katie Corcoran had a game-high 44 assists.
