TexasTerror Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 I've mentioned this to a few of you via PM... I know that LU has been contacted by a school regarding a "real game" in 2009. We'll see if the Cards administration balks at it, as it seems they are dead set on going with two or three scrimmages between the 'Red' and 'White'. For those that do not know - schools like Lamar can play exhibitions. South Alabama has a few for next year and are on the same timeline as the Cards as far as getting back on the gridiron. USA is scheduling prep schools and JV squads from other institutions. LU should be open to scheduling these opponents, it would generate more excitement to hit someone else besides their own teammates. Would probably park 15k butts in the seats, would it not? May not give LU fans a fair assessment of their team, but would at least provide some additional incentive to the 2009 season, especially for those on here who continue to twiddle their thumbs, waiting for the season opener in 2010 vs McNeese.
badndn Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Do any of the players loose eligibility? I would think not since I know our Basketball redshirts can play in exhibitions without lossing any.
Guest coachacola Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 The only reason I can think of why they wouldn't play any exhibition games is that the stadium wouldn't be ready for that. I think the plan is to have field turf installed this summer but I don't think the rest of the stadium will be ready. South Alabama already has a stadium ready for them.
TexasTerror Posted February 18, 2009 Author Report Posted February 18, 2009 Do any of the players loose eligibility? I would think not since I know our Basketball redshirts can play in exhibitions without lossing any. How is South Alabama doing it if they were going to cost eligibility of players? South Alabama is playing SEVERAL games. The only reason I can think of why they wouldn't play any exhibition games is that the stadium wouldn't be ready for that. I think the plan is to have field turf installed this summer but I don't think the rest of the stadium will be ready. South Alabama already has a stadium ready for them. If that's the case... a) Where is LU going to practice? Where is LU going to conduct those intrasquad scrimmages (I believe two or three of them have been mentioned)? They could schedule this game practically whenever they wanted to during the fall, if they can't do it early in the year due to stadium turf or what not, they can do it later...seems like an opportunity wasted.
