Bobcat-Mustang game highlights hoop docket

The boys high school playoffs start next week but several teams are still battling it out for playoff seeding tonight.

One of them will involve two Orange County teams.

The West Orange-Stark Mustangs (21-11) will take on the Orangefield Bobcats (19-14) to settle the third-place playoff spot out of District 21-3A.

The two will battle at 7 p.m. at Vidor High School.

The Bobcats pulled even with the Mustangs on Tuesday when they downed the Mustangs 35-33 at Mustang Gym in quite a nailbiter. WO-S got the best of the Bobcats 60-44 at Bobcat Gym in the first half of 21-3A play.

The WO-S-Orangefield winner will play 22-3A runnerup Coldspring in the bidistrict round of the Class 3A Region playoffs next week.

The No. 1 seed will also be decided in 21-3A when Silsbee (22-7) and Hardin-Jefferson (32-5) get together at Port Neches-Groves High School tonight at 7 p.m. Silsbee won the first matchup 65-55 while H-J went to Silsbee Tuesday and downed the Tigers 67-64.

The winner will get a first-round bye while the loser will take on third-place 22-3A unit Liberty.

Beaumont Ozen (22-5) will represent 20-4A as the champion and Beaumont Central will make the playoffs as the No. 4 seed but Nederland (22-11) and Livingston (22-9) will play for the No. 2 and No. 3 seed tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Parker Center at Lamar-Port Arthur. Nederland won one game over the Lions 63-57 while Livingston took the other 74-71.

The winner will get the No. 2 seed and will play C.E. King in bidistrict while the loser will go in as the No. 3 seed and will face North Forest in bidistrict. Central (18-11) will meet Crosby in the bidistrict round.

The No. 1 seed in District 23-2A will be solved as well with Anahuac (23-7) facing Kountze (20-10) at 7 p.m. at Beaumont Ozen High School.

Kountze won one meeting 68-59 while Anahuac won the other 78-73. The winner will get a bidistrict bye while the loser will face play in the bidistrict round.

East Chambers (11-20) which finished third in 23-2A, will face Houston Milburn Academy Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Barbers Hill High School.
