Guest nostradamus Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Dicky, I had a kid play for me at Tatum by the name of Jayme Bradley. His shot was eerily similar to Turner's. His sophomore year he made 110 3's, his junior year he made 142 3's and his senior year he made 171 3's. Lazeek is on to something and I agree with him.......in fact, I bet I know where he got his information from. Mechanics are important BUT, not near as important as the release, the rotation, the arch, and the touch.....and if it is done the same every time then the mechanics can be a little different and still be a shooter........wait......wait.......I don't want shooters.......I want makers! Let's see: Jamaal Wilkes? Rashard Lewis (we saw how aweful his mechanics are in the 3 point contest)?, Larry Bird (dang near threw it with two hands)?......just to name a few. How about Jim Furyk on the golf course..........his mechanics are so bad that he only makes several million a year doing it.
Guest DickVitale Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Yeah I get that, but my point was and is that I have seen him play ONCE...And during that game I saw an athlete with bad mechanics NOT making threes, so what would your assesment be of that? Honestly. His release looked bad and there was NO rotation. HE IS NOT A SHOOTER, from what I saw on Tuesday....HOWEVER, I think that kid is a player and HJ would be hard pressed to win without him.

Darn! I hate it when you get it right, DickieV. But, this is right on. Nearly NO ROTATION on his shots from the floor. He did, however, do a good job from the free throw line - especially down the line when it counted. Forte??? Defense!!
jmspears3 Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Or if you want ( and I don't think you do) I can be like Charles Barkley: "That just tuuuurble!" " That Jarvis Bernard is a knucle head!" "Tuuuurble, just tuurble!" :D You are the Man!!! LMAO
Guest nostradamus Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 You guys must be talking about someone else........I see this kid everyday and he has plenty of rotation on his shot....
Bucof2010 Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Its all about doing it the same every time no matter how you do it.
Guest stevenash Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Turner's MECHANICS are BAD...You can have bad mechanics and make SOME shots, but when I saw him play they were NOT falling AND his mechanics were awful, which leads me to conclude that HE CAN'T SHOOT. He may hit some tonight, but to be a consistent shooter, your mechanics must be in order..Its about muscle memory when it comes to shooting. The kid is a heck of an athlete and I don't think HJ wins on Tuesday vs. Silsbee without him, but he is NOT a shooter. I have seen LOTS of basketball and Jarvis Bernard WAS out of control in the Silsbee game during CERTAIN stretches, and it was driving Todd NUTS during the game...Yes he does play hard from what I saw, AND he played well down the stretch, but all the spinning while turning the ball over (which happenend more than once, and one time during a crucial Silsbee run) leads me to conclude that he has a tendancy to be wild....BOTH reasonable assessments. Come on Lazeek, I do this for a living, man! I don't do this for a living and am surprised when you speak of "out of control" you don't mention the premier jaw jacker/smack talker who concentrated so much on that aspect of the game that it may well have been what cost Silsbee in the end when he missed 3 of 4 free throws in the final two minutes.(incidentally, would love to compare the free throw percentages in the game of Turner vs. talker) Dicky, it is my guess you tend to approve of that type of "boys will be boys stuff" but that young man has yet to learn that he might actually be motivating his oppponent (the ones he thinks he is "getting in the head" of) to give more effort and concentration. Belittle mechanics all you wish, but 37% is 37% from 3 point land which is equivalent of 55% from 2 point range and I think at the high school level 37% is more than acceptable) Are you going to tell me that 37% from this type of athlete (who blocks 4 or 5 shots a game from the opponents post men 6 inches taller than he) is not acceptable? If so, your claim to superior knowledge of this game is questionable. I can remember a young man about 20 years ago who was a tennis player who hit the ball off the "wrong" foot and, therefore, was "questioned" by the "enlightened". His name was Bjorn Borg and today, those same "wrong mechanics" are used almost exclusively by 9 of the top ten tennis players. I am not too impressed with the "mechanics" of Shawn Marion, but it doesn't seem to have held him back. If his mechanics are that faulty, why not give him the room to shoot the three and use that defender for alternate purposes as well? Interestingly enough, I would guess you think Benard has the superior mechanics since the shot looks prettier. If you watch closely, Turner has perfect rotation on the ball and Benards is a semi knuckler from a rotation standpoint. But, of course, I am a lowly bystander who never "dropped 30" on an opponent and only pursued a coaching major in college for one semester before finding out I would never survive the profession.
Guest DickVitale Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 You guys must be talking about someone else........I see this kid everyday and he has plenty of rotation on his shot.... I WATCHED the kid play ONE GAME!!!! I like his athleticism, and he is a very important piece to that team....SHOT DID NOT LOOK GOOD....IN THAT GAME...I would like to watch him play again because I feel that he is a real player, but he LOOKED like he could not shoot IN THAT ONE GAME THAT I SAW......>
Guest stevenash Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 They both help Todd's team win....Thats the main issue...You just refuse to accept the fact that I KNOW what I am talking about, and that my assessment, whether you accept it or not is accurate...and you don't have to, it's MY TAKE...I just happen to do this for PAY as well as the love of the game, thats all... : lazeek remember your talking to calvin murphy......DickV thinks he knows everything and thinks he's the greatteeesst of all timeeee....he's going to blabber 24/7 No, don't want to be him either, but I know more than most.....especially the basketball novices on THIS site...Some of your comments on here are flat out funny! How many of you ACTUALLY even PLAYED? Not many..... : But you guys HATE it when I talk about the game that I have known and been around MY ENTIRE LIFE....get outta here! And I contend you are "completely all wet" about the ball rotation. I would further suggest you did not see the "alleged lack of rotation" as you were focused on the appearance and preparation of the release. In fact, I will bet you a dollar to a dime (or ANY multiple thereof) that he had as much or more rotation on the three point attempts as anyone on the floor. Shouldn't be hard to get the films and run them in slow mo. Here is your chance to prove how superior your knowledge about the game is to mine. Are you up for it? If so, give me your wager amount and we will proceed. By the way 37% from 3 pt land for a season is most assuredly a shooter.
Guest DickVitale Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 It really does not matter. You make me tired. This is the dumbest debate... .. End of discussion...Really.
setxslam Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 HJ fans are as relentless as HJ players. They will wear you down until you turn it over.
Guest DickVitale Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 I believe that they honestly think that HJ players have no flaws!....Yet they only have one or two PLAYING in college every four or five years....Todd is doing a GREAT job there, but the fans can be clueless sometimes...The Turner kid is a really good athlete and is doing great there, and this guy is talking to me about rotation, and I was saying his mechanics (which BTW can be worked on) were bad, and he didn't make any threes in the ONE GAME that I saw him play in...Which would lead any sane person to believe that MAYBE this kid could work on his shooting...Just MAYBE....BUT He IS at Hardin Jeff, so there is no way he needs to work on ANYTHING! Give me a break...... :..BOTTOM LINE: I like the kid and will watch him more during the playoffs...Burrell too.
Guest nostradamus Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 He attempted one perimeter shot Tuesday night... I WATCHED the kid play ONE GAME!!!! End of conversation right here. Completely and totally unnecessary to speak like this. Even better....curse words will be deleted, implied curse words will be deleted, critique's of radio broadcasts....out but, The Lord's name in vain stands tall and proud on this message board. This message board's moderator's and myself are on completely different pages when it comes to what is acceptable here so I believe this will be my last post on this board. Good Day.

Sure, and you would have us believe that you, and only you know anything about shooting. Nos happens to be the career 3 pt record holder at HJ and is very familiar with mechanics, statistics, etc. (and don't give me any of that 3-a vs 5-a BS because it has absolutely nothing to do with mechanics) He also listed an example of a young who played for him that had a relatively ugly shot but he made many of them and because of those, his team got to a state final, but, he doesn't really know anything about this like you do. Lets try and be real here. Knowledge of the game is one thing but it is NOT exclusive to anyone. BTW, if you had seen his shot a year ago, you would have thought that it is now a beautiful thing. I will be happy to take the athlete and teach him how to shoot and you take the shooter and teach him how to be an athlete. Sure like my chances in that one.
