The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team will host a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Louisiana State University-Eunice on Monday at Martin Field, 1000 Lakeshore Drive.

Lamar State is 1-5 on the season after the Feb. 13-14 Cowtown Classic Tournament in Fort Worth, where the Seahawks defeated Independence Community College, 14-6, and lost to Odessa College, 9-6; Navarro College, 4-0; and Fort Scott Community College, 3-2 in eight innings.

Four Seahawks are hitting over .300 in the first six games – shortstop Christina Jaques from Bridge City (.600), Chelsea Brown from Kirbyville (.438); utility player Lauren Angelle from Bridge City (.429) and first baseman Sami Jo Williams from Port Neches-Groves (.375).

Jaques is starting out this season like she finished last year, stealing eight bases in eight attempts to rank No. 14 in the nation. She currently is No. 6 in the nation in hitting.

LSU-E (4-6) is coming off a home doubleheader split with San Jacinto College.

1st game:

LSU-E 12, Lamar State 10

2nd game:

LSU-E 5, Lamar State 3

I'm waiting for stats. LSU-E was ahead 11-4 in the first game and the Seahawks came back in the sixth inning to make it 12-10. In the final inning, the Seahawks got two runners on base with two outs, but couldn't get the hit they needed.
