Seahawks hoop team closes home schedule Saturday / LSC-PA 79, Jacksonville 78

The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team will play their final home game of the 2009 season Saturday against Jacksonville College, the No. 2 team in Region XIV.

Lamar State lost Wednesday at Blinn College, 90-81, to move to 8-17 overall and 1-15 in conference action.

Jacksonville (20-7, 12-4) led Region XIV for most of the season, but dropped to second behind Lon Morris (24-2, 13-3) after losing three of the last four games, capped by a 76-71 defeat Wednesday at home to Paris Junior College.

When Lamar State and Jacksonville tip off at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Carl Parker Center, it will be the final home game for three Seahawk sophomores.

Point guard Jemel Douriso, an all-district and all-region player at Port Neches-Groves High School, averaged 10.33 points-per-game in his freshman season and currently is hitting 11.7 ppg with today’s game and two road games left on the schedule.

George Williamson, a first team all-district player and runner-up for the James Gamble Award in his senior year at Vidor High School, is a two-year starter at forward for the Seahawks and the second-leading scorer on the team this year.

He currently holds Lamar State single-season records for scoring (404 points), scoring average (14.9 ppg) and free-throw percentage (85 percent).

Williamson also holds the single game record for scoring (34 points) and was a third team All-Metro Conference selection in 2008.

Reserve guard Jason Williamson, a younger brother of George Williamson, was the team MVP and a first team all-district player at Vidor High School. He was an All-Metro Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2008.

Lamar State closes out the season on the road – Saturday at Panola College in Carthage and next Wednesday at Lee College in Baytown.

The Seahawks played one of their best games of the season in handing the Jaguars their third straight loss after Jacksonville led the conference for most of the season.

Freshman forward Adrian Fontenot led Lamar State with 31 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore forward George Williamson closed out his two-year career with the Seahawks with a 15-point performance, while freshman forward Jacoby Joseph added nine points.

Jacksonville sophomore forward Daryl Ashford scored 21 points to lead the Jaguars. Bryce Hill had 19 and Kenny Franklin, 11.

Lamar State closes out the season on the road – Saturday at Panola College in Carthage and next Wednesday at Lee College in Baytown.
