Retiredtexas Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I read that HJ's basketball court was "smaller" than the basketball courts at other area high schools. If this is true, how much smaller is it? Length or with, or both? If smaller, how does it help or hurt HJ's or their visitors?
ST413 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I believe it is the older size which is shorter helping teams like HJ that bapply full court pressure
Cowboy4jc Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I think they are refering to the small stands and low roof. It makes it seem a lot louder during the game and when HJ plays Silsbee its standing room only.
AggiesAreWe Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 I read that HJ's basketball court was "smaller" than the basketball courts at other area high schools. If this is true, how much smaller is it? Length or with, or both? If smaller, how does it help or hurt HJ's or their visitors? It really doesn't matter anymore how small the court is. They have played their last game on it. They will be playing in their new gym next season. The old court is 84 feet. New court will be 92 feet.
ST413 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 cowboy I read this also that most courts now are longer than the floor at HJ most are built to the college size i believe which i believe is 6 feet longer not sure of the exact length but at the time i read this i looked it up online and they showed the different sizes
Guest nostradamus Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Actually, if you look in the NFHS rule book you will see that it says that 84 feet is the "recommended length" for high school basketball. The length of a basketball floor can be anywhere from 84-94 ft. HJ's floor is 84 ft. The floor in the new gym will be 89 ft.
ST413 Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Thats correct Nos I knew I had read something similar. I had read that most are just larger now and the smaller courts benefitted pressing teams.
