Guest JoesBros
VIERA, Fla. – Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada has decided to participate in the World Baseball Classic, team officials said today. Tejada had previously turned down the request from the Dominican Republic to play for his country, but had a change of heart after talking with Dominican manager Felipe Alou. Tejada will play third base, shortstop and be a designated hitter. Players begin reporting to their World Baseball Classic teams next week. Tejada, who didn’t make the trip to Viera for the Astros’ game against the Washington Nationals, has played winter ball every year in his native Dominican until last year. An All-Star last year, Tejada hit .283 with 13 home runs and 66 RBIs. He hit .295 after the break and had only three home runs and 22 RBIs in that span after collecting 10 homers and 44 RBIs in the first half. www.chron.com
