Guest spinks Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 How can it be a good or great rivalry if it is only a district matchup? I mean Silsbee has been to 3 out of the last 4 Reg. Finals....two of which were against HJ with the teams splitting. Both teams once again are two games away from making it 3 years in a row with a Silsbee/HJ Regional Final. I agree that PNG/ Nederland is the best in football, but as far as SE Texas goes there is no comparison to HJ/ SIlsbee on the hardwood!!!!!!!!! Silsbee and HJ are a district match up also ??? I was referring that the only time anyone talks about Ozen/ Central matchup is because they only play in district..............they never make it far enough to play in the playoffs as HJ and Silsbee have been doing. That's only because Silsbee should STILL be in 4A, and If HJ played with just Sour Lake kids, it would be only ONE banner up there from 67! (I am so wrong for stirring this pot!) :D Why should Silsbee still be 4A? Who died and made you Charles Breithaupt(HJ)?????

Making more excuses!!! If Ozen did not recruit and get the pick of the litter in BISD then they would have no Championships..................that is basically what you just said about HJ. HJISD is Sour Lake, China, Nome, etc. What is wrong with that???? "Build it and they will come".....I don't think you folks understand that phrase, but there is not a SINGLE PLAYER that ever played at Ozen who can say that they were EVER "recruited". I was only stirring the pot about HJ...They have a fine program over there with great tradition. How many times has HJ played Ozen by the way? Oh, none? Why is that? Silsbee plays them every year..Central too...Maybe THEY are the best 3A in SE Texas..... : :....(more pot stirring) How can it be a good or great rivalry if it is only a district matchup? AggiesAreWe Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Okay. But about HJ not playing Ozen or Central every year, you know it takes two to tango. Who's to say Todd has tried to schedule these guys and they have turned him down. I do not know this for sure, just speculalting.
Lazeek Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Actually HJ wanted to play Ozen a few years ago in a Warm Up game and AB quickly denied them.............Oh so now that HJ does not play Ozen then they are not worthy of any of this talk. WTF is that about DV. Ozen is the one that plays in the Nederland and PNG Tournaments. They are some big time 4A school then play like the other big time 4A schools and play some competition or are you afraid that your record might have a few more losses than wins. I give tons of credit this year to Silsbee for the schedule that they played. It has prepared them for what is important.....playoffs!!!!!!!!!
Guest DickVitale Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 We played Todd when he was at Kountze when I was there... home and home (once a year)....Boutte would not turn a game down with him if he wanted to play. Actually HJ wanted to play Ozen a few years ago in a Warm Up game and AB quickly denied them.............Oh so now that HJ does not play Ozen then they are not worthy of any of this talk. what the heck is that about DV. No matter WHO the opponent was...Did you folks forget we played in Houston vs. The Nation (then called Academy/Nike Invitational) Slam Dunk to the Beach (DELAWARE, with OAK HILL), Arkansas Tourney with 5 nationally ranked teams, AND the AUGUSTA, Ga. classic featuring 7 nationally ranked teams? You guys have amnesia, apparently.
Lazeek Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Quit living in the past...........that is what everyone tells the HJ faithful.............Ozen has not played in a premier tourney in 4-5 years.
Guest DickVitale Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Quit living in the past...........that is what everyone tells the HJ faithful.............Ozen has not played in a premier tourney in 4-5 years. Just giving you the facts...Why would they continue to go miles and miles away to prove anything to these people? They play locally and win, then take care of business in district, then make a playoff run...Can't win state EVERY year...

Back then, he had the team to compete with some of those national teams, therefore he took them to those tourneys. He hasn't had that kind of team since Perkins left, therefore he has been regulated to stick to the local tourneys and has been very successful at doing so. Andre knew what was best for his teams, but also knew what his teams limitations were. I guarentee you if Boutte had a team the caliber of those Perkins teams, he would still be traveling those miles to prove something to "THESE PEOPLE". :
Lazeek Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Tons of success in the local tournaments...................Ozen lost to Kelly in the PNG tourney this season!!!!!! Kelly is a good team but for the Almighty Ozen Panthers to lose to Kelly!!!!!!!!! C'mon now DV.....the dynasty is dwindling!!!!!!!

Most, heck ALL, of those tourneys were invitationals which meant if you did not have a marquee nationally ranked player you probably would not be invited back until you do. THUS, the only tourneys that had slots at the time were Nederland and such, AND they were local so it was easy to schedule....You understand, AAW, most people on here do not...(now watch someone call me an elitist for saying that!)

Kelly is a good team but for the Almighty Ozen Panthers to lose to Kelly!!!!!!!!! C'mon now DV.....the dynasty is dwindling!!!!!!! Duke lost to Boston College and Michigan and UNC lost to BC as well....Dynasty is over for them too.....Its a marathon not a sprint! One game will never determine the state of a program, win or lose.... :....I have to teach you guys on here EVERY DAY!! ;D
Lazeek Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Boutte is a elitist..............not you!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Guest DickVitale Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Boutte is a elitist..............not you!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Nahhh, he's not either....We are both nice guys, if you get to know us, though! :D
Lazeek Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Do you think that Boutte would have left Ozen for PAISD if he still had a team that he could compete with for a State Championship???? I am not being a smarty pants........this is a honest question.

I am not being a smarty pants........this is a honest question. Yeah...he was really getting worn out..needed a break, and it just happened to come in the form of a pay raise and easier commute with less headache..I asked him the other day did he miss this time of year and he said "the games....yes...the game prep? Heck NO!" :D..You guys don't realize that he started out early as a head coach (age 23) and now at 45, it was kinda wearing on him. He will coach again, but for now, he is getting his best three TRS pay years for retirement while taking a much needed break! Makes sense...

HoopInsider_Cooper Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Didn't HJ lose to Kingwood Park in their own yard?
HoopInsider_Cooper Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Back to topic. I don't think Cleveland/HJ will be that great. HJ is much better than this overranked bunch and should win by plenty rather than come down to last possession.
Lazeek Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Actually HJ lost 4 of their 6 games at home this season. HJ lost to Nederland, Kingwood Park, Lufkin Hudson and Silsbee. They lost on the road at Central and lost at a neutral site to Silsbee. Six losses all in all and all six are to playoff teams from this season. Three of the losses are to teams that are still in the playoffs as well. If things work out right then HJ could possibly avenge 3 of those 6 losses between now and Saturday night!!! ;D ;D ;D

But then again, they played it straight this year, can't say that about them the last few years.
