4 Patriot errors in the 4th inning allow 6 Eagle runs to score. The Patriots once again hit the ball well enough to win. The Goose was led at the plate by Price Jacobs, Mason Ball, Dalton Going, Brandon Rhoden and Jacob Wilburn. Jacobs' 2 run bomb in the 3rd (4th of the year) gave the Pats a brief 5-3 lead. Chance Czerwonka worked 4 innings and was relieved by Kendalll Wilkerson and Ball.

The Patriots will try again on Friday as they take on Galveston Ball at 2:30.

We're young and at times it really shows. Not making the routine plays has KILLED us in our 3 losses. In all 3 losses we have scored over 10 runs.

We also have the ability to play very well at times. I thought we looked solid against a very good Deer Park team this afternoon. Just could not get a hit when we needed one.

19 4A is loaded with baseball talent. Barbers Hill, Crosby, Dayton, and Kingwood Park all have good baseball programs. CE King and Galena Park are not too far behind. North Forrest is an unknown commodity, but Forrest Brook has had some fine teams in the past.

It's going to be tough for all of us. It should be fun to watch.

Fr. Michael Martinez goes 5 2/3 innings and holds Ball in check for the most part. Sloppy D once again plagued the Pats as they commit 6 errors.  Dalton Going pitches the final 1/3 to pick up the save.

Price Jacobs led the way at the plate going 3 for 4 with a solo shot in the 3rd (5th of the year) and Mason Ball stayed on fire as well. The Middle of the Patriot order was led by Dalton Going, Brandon Rhoden and Cody Butler.

The Goose will finish out the tourney on Saturday.

7 unearned runs in the 2nd inning doom the Patriots once again. Battled back to get the tying run on 2nd in the botom of the 7th. Check 3rd strike call for the last out ended the Patriot rally.

GCM will play Baytown Christian Academy on Tuesday before hosting the inagural GCM Tournament this Thurs-Sat.

Tournament over, Sterling, Lee eye district

Both Sterling and Lee posted run-rule victories Saturday to end successful runs in the Gary Herrington Invitational baseball tournament.

The Rangers defeated Aldine Eisenhower, 10-2, while the Ganders mauled C.E. King, 14-4, as both squads finished the tourney with identical 3-1 marks.

In the Herrington Invitational championship game, Westfield downed Deer Park, 12-8.

Coaches Paul Tadlock at Sterling and David Hackney at Lee will take all the momentum they can get right now.

District 21-5A baseball season begins its triple round-robin format Tuesday with Sterling playing at Lee.

After a tough pre-district slate, Hackney feels like his Ganders are headed in the right direction. Lee entered the weekend tournament 0-5 and exited with a 3-6 record.

“Records are important but they’re not the bottom line,†Hackney said. “The bottom line is what you do in district. I’m looking forward to Tuesday.â€

Goose Creek Memorial went 1-2-1 in the Herrington tournament, losing 8-7 to Pearland Dawson on Saturday.

Sterling Rangers

Sterling had 11 hits in its 10-2 victory over Eisenhower, a sign that the Ranger offense might be coming to life. And with District 21-5A play beginning Tuesday at REL, the offense couldn’t have picked a better time to hit overdrive, according to Tadlock.

“The big thing for us is for our hitting to get more consistent,†he said. “Today was the first time we’ve had three or four guys string together multiple hits.

“I feel good about our front-line pitching with Keagan Kogut, Jared Walters, Kevin Peters and Garrett Lamb. If we keep playing good defense, I’m comfortable about our chances.â€

Saturday was Lamb’s turn on the hill and he turned in a stellar performance, as he recorded seven strikeouts en route to going the distance.

At the plate, Peters led the charge with a home run and a double. Michael Lopez had a double and a single, while Landon Martinez also had a pair of hits.

“We’re still making some mistakes,†Tadlock said. “We need to be a little smarter on the basepaths, we had some other chances to score but ran ourselves out of them.â€

Lee Ganders

Hackney said it wasn’t just his team’s record that took an upturn in the Herrington tourney.

“We played great competition last weekend in Pearland, and even though we didn’t win a game, we played pretty well,†said the REL coach. “Now after this week I think we’re starting to figure out that if we play smart and play together we’re a pretty good team.â€

The Ganders got a big performance from Zack Tunwar against King. Tunwar had five RBIs, including a third-inning grand slam.

Daniel Guzman had a three-run blast, while John Salinas was 3-for-3 at the plate. Randall White ended the day for REL with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the run-rule.

On the mound, David Garcia pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win. Reed Seeley pitched the final inning in his first appearance of the season.

“Reed threw the ball hard. He looked pretty good,†Hackney said.

GC Memorial

The Patriots banged out 13 hits, but couldn’t overcome a seven-run second inning in which they gave up six unearned runs after two were out.

“Somehow we’ve got to do something different,†Patriot coach Chris Rupp said. “I’ve got to get us to play better defense. The pitchers are going out and doing a good job, but we just let our defense kill us.â€

Memorial battled back to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh and the game ended with the tying run at second.

Alex Gonzales went 3 for 4 with an RBI double. Price Jacobs and Dalton Going were 2 for 4 with Going slugging a three-run triple, and Taylor O’Connor slugged a solo homer.

Going pitched the final 5 1/3 innings after the defense did in starter Kendall Wilkerson.

The Patriots, 7-4 overall, host Baytown Christian Academy Tuesday.
