Great job by freshman pitcher Cain Draper....  He went 5 innings giving up only 1 run... Several crucial double plays turned by HJ in key situations.

Josh Denton hit a solo homerun for the hawks and HJ had several with DEEP flyout to dead center.

It took a while for Kirbyville's bats to warm up along with a couple of baserunning mistakes and Errors. That will get you everytime. Not to mention a couple of questionable calls, one  that let to 3 runs.

But the boys never gave up.  Kville had bases loaded with 2 outs in the 6th, McCually hits a screamer up the middle and HF short stop makes a unbelievable play.

Winn had a great outing on the mound. The ball was just not falling Kvilles way last night....HF has a great team. I predict they will go far in 3A this year

Keep your head up men...Lets take the wood to Buna today!!!

The Orange Leader

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Bobcats closed out the 2009 Bobcat Classic Saturday afternoon with a 7-1 win over the Tyler All Saints Trojans. Senior Zach Peevey went six innings on the mound for the Bobcats giving up just one run on five hits while striking out six.

Orangefield (10-1) got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Jace Statum led the inning off with a walk and then advanced to second on a Jonathan Deramus single. After Jacob Felts moved Statum over to third with a fly out to right field, Chase Angelle hit a sharp grounder to All Saints shortstop Jack Skeen who’s throw to first was off and Statum came in to score.

The Bobcats extended their lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Kyle Fontenot reached base on a fielder’s choice and then came in to score on a Josh Watson RBI double. Derrick Evans then reached on another error by Skeen but Watson was thrown out trying to come home. Derrick Evans would then come home on a Statum RBI triple to right-center field. Deramus followed that up with a grounder to Skeen at shortstop but again the throw to first was off the mark and Statum came in to score to up the Bobcat lead to 4-1.

Orangefield tacked on another run in the third inning when Peevey doubled and Fontenot singled to bring courtesy runner Parker James in to score.

All Saints picked up their lone run in the top of the fourth. Leadoff batter Chris Nyberg reached base after being hit by a pitch and a Chris Bailey double moved Nyberg to third. Christian Buatte then hit a grounder to Quinton Evans at third but the ball was bobbled and Nyberg came in to score.

Orangefield added another run in the fifth inning. Felts led off with a double and came home on an Angelle RBI single to the wall in right-center field.

The ‘Cats put their final run on the board in the sixth inning when Deramus brought Derrick Evans home with an RBI single.

Deramus finished the game 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI and Watson finished 2-3 with a RBI. Orangefield will hit the road on Tuesday when they travel to Livingston.

The Deweyville Pirates responded with a 9-1 win over Port Arthur Memorial in the tourney Saturday.
