Link powers Lamar baseball to 8-1 over Nicholls State

Tyler Link jump-started the offense by crunching a leadoff home run - his team-high fourth of the season - over the leftfield fence in the first inning to propel the 23rd-ranked Cardinals toward an 8-1 victory over Nicholls State.

"Link has been doing an outstanding job for us all season in the leadoff spot," said Jim Gilligan, Lamar's head coach of the senior left fielder who went 2-for-4 to improve his team-leading batting average to .409. "Al Vincent (the deceased former professional coach and manager who served many years as a volunteer assistant to Gilligan) always wanted to have a guy with some power in his bat in the leadoff spot, and Tyler can definitely hit for power."
