PURPLE 4EVER Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 BISD stadium maybe slightly bigger than CFISD.... Why does it need to be bigger???? I would think that more people that live in Cy-Fair will attend games that live in Beaumont. WRONG! The Beaumont area EASILY averages more per home game than the Houston area, the stadiums are larger since more than one school shares the stadium. Having grown up in SE Texas and having seen football games in the Houston area, SE Texas has more passion for high school football. Seems like the Cy Fair stadium should hold more than it does, I guess the double deck just makes it look a lot larger. I believe Stallworth Stadium has the largest seating capacity of any high school stadium around here (in Houston or Beaumont). I believe PN-G's stadium does have the largest home side seating of any stadium in this part of the state.
Guest DickVitale Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 In Houston, the football crowds are SO spread out throughout the city, and they are NOT in close proximity of each other so fans have to choose. The only district that does not get real good crowds for football is really HISD, surprisingly...Katy draws GREAT, and so does Fort Bend. The larger communities really support the programs in Houston. Unfortunately, HISD does not really have any large community followings for just one school. People support schools like Madison, Yates, Lamar and Wheatley in football and basketball, but the base is still not as large as in the suburban districts...Wheatley's enrollment is less than 600! Yates has around 900. Madison and Lamr are significantly larger, but the hail in comparison to schools like Katy.

HISD does not want to have to travel to Hitchcock and Sweeny for district....Stafford would be he closest 3A opponent, and thats about 30 miles away from Wheatley, past Missouri City. Pride is the other reason...It was brought up several times over the last few years, but the HISD brass just wont do it...They fought like heck when they dropped from 5A to 4A in 1993...Its a crazy situation.
