Cool Weather Brings Promise

Get ready, the water temperature has dropped almost 10 degrees and the fish should start biting all over, fresh and salt. Flounder are being caught in the flats around the sabine lake area and the trout are moving in. Bass are moving into the shallows and should be hitting top waters and jerk-baits. Crank baits will also produce better in creek channels once the bait starts to move in.

If artificial baits don't do the trick, use Griff for cut-bait. He's sure to bring a hard-head.

Bull Reds are running out of Clear Lake and around the Galveston Jetties.

Made a short trip on Sat. 9-30 in Lake Sabine. Had to hunt around for a while, but finally found a couple of schools and picked up 1 red and 24 trout (about 1/2 were sandies). Kept 13 trout and the red, so, not too bad for 1/2 day, since I hadn't fished since July. Some good action for a while, almost every cast produced something.

Anyone else been out?

The great dilemma this time of the year, fish or go deer hunting. I spent part of the weekend at the deer lease bow hunting.

Saw deer, as usual. One big doe that I would have loved to have shot, was standing straight under my stand. Before I could get a shot, she spooked and took off. I don't think I made any noise. She was right at the ladder to my stand. I think she would smell that I was there from the stand. Good thing for her. I hope to get both of my does before gun season starts in a month.

No delima for me, tvc. I love hunting season though. It gets all those hunters off of my lake!!

So, how about all of this fresh water? Is it going to ruin the lake for a while?

What about any saltwater reports? Has anyone heard any since the rains?

A guy/guide I work with went to the north end of the lake right after the rains and caught over 100 specks on the lousiana side. He said that the east bank of the lake tends to get less of an influx of freshwater as most of it seems to stay on the west bank and the channel. He has not been in the last couple of days and does not know how it is since the water downstream is just now cresting. A biologist told him that due to the salinity of the lake before the rains, it would not have that much of an effect on the fishing.

I would imagine that the rains really won't hurt the flounder fishing that much or reds at the beach or jetties. It may actually help those after the water clears up as it starts pushing all the shrimp and crabs out of the marsh. If I get some more reports, I will post them.
