There's an odd situation brewing out in Poteet, and people are clearly not happy about it.

The San Antonio Express-News is reporting that first-year coach and athletic director Randy Palmer will not be retained, an announcement that was made in front of an angry crowd of about 200 parents and students. Whoever takes Palmer's place will be the fifth coach in as many years for Poteet.

Palmer's dismissal has angered the student body so much that roughly 100 students staged a walkout Tuesday morning, and the school has yet to decide whether or not they will be counted absent for the demonstration. Either way, their opinion has been made loud and clear: We want Palmer. Even more confusing is the apparent lack of reasoning surrounding his release. Palmer claims he's yet to be given any reasons as to his dismissal. School board president Mike McIntyre says Palmer will soon receive the facts surrounding the school board's decision.

There are other reasons that some coaches get fired besides their performance in athletics. But 5 coaches in 5 years ! Remember this school board hired these same coaches. Sounds like this school board need a little reorganization. The school district citizens have to carry a little of this blame also, they elected there people to the board. Board members are elected for 4 years with about half coming up for election every 2 years. Seems like they must be liking what the board is doing for there has to have been elections during this 5 year period.

  Interesting to see the outcome. Students being absent cost the school to lose money from the State.

sounds like small town politics... you have two possible replacements with family members on the school board... you do the math.

Maybe a coach's success will warrent more money ??? They may be keeping cost down bc of economy :-\

this is a weird decision : The students seem to be very fun of this man. They are due an explanation IMO :o

Have to agree with you on this one...should cost "school board" members their positions.  5 in 5 years says there's something wrong with the process or with the situation.  Especially when you get someone in who ears a playoff trip and seems to be getting things headed in the right direction...we finally found a school board WORSE than West Orange Cove...
