But a new twist is that it would create separate championships."
badndn Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 IMO this would ruin Texas HS Football as we know it. One thing that erks me is that the national top 25 is loaded with Private schools that recruit players from other states that alllow the privates to compete for the state titles! Today schools like Odessa Permian, Lufkin and Tyler can compete for state titles at the 5A level against metro area schools, but if they were competing against the best (recruited) talent from the metro areas all on one or two teams, they would not stand a chance.
Cardinal Supporter Posted March 28, 2009 Report Posted March 28, 2009 You are not supposed to be able to recruit in the UIL rules. If the private schools joined the UIL then they would not be able to recruit either. Just a thought. I do not know a lot about how the private schools operate. But they would be under the same rules as the public schools if they join the UIL don't you think?

Rebel Yeller Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 I lived a couple of years in Louisiana and they allow private schools in their conferences. You do see that the privates are the top schools in the state. They do not offer athletic scholarships, they do however offer acedemic scholarships to worthy students, it just so happens that they happen to be outstanding athletes. Private schools are also attractive to foreign students whose parents are or are not in the states for jobs. Private schools can have students with little or no acedemic credintials in their schools and they will be competing right along with the students that are OK to be playing. This may happen, but if it does I hope that they create their own conference or class and not allow them into the non-private school brackets. It might not happen over night, but it would not take long for the privates to push the publics to the background as powerhouse private schools emerged and began to draw the brightest talent and when theat happens we will have football or basketball factories. Just my opinion, but I have seen it first hand.

They are not restricted to zoning or district requirements.
