Men’s tennis and volleyball bore the brunt of the NCAA penalties. Volleyball lost three scholarships off its allotment of 12 for the next two years and will be barred from the postseason this coming year. Tennis lost a full scholarship for the next three seasons from the 4.5 it is allowed and will be banned from postseason participation next year. A&M-Corpus Christi had requested only half a scholarship loss for men’s tennis.

Men’s basketball faced additional recruiting restrictions, stemming from 92 impermissible phone calls placed by assistant coach Kevin Norris to recruits from October 2007 through February 2008 and giving free transportation and housing to prospective player Thijin Moses from Jan. 29, 2008, through Feb. 7, 2008. In addition to recruiting restrictions self-imposed this past fall, the NCAA mandated that the basketball staff not make contact with recruits for one week this fall.
