Second Annual Lady Cardinals Golf Tournament Tees Up April 20

The second Annual Lamar Lady Cardinals Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, April 20th at the Beaumont Country Club. The event was originally scheduled for October 6, 2008, but was postponed until the spring because of the damages and economic strain in the Golden Triangle caused by Hurricane Ike.

All proceeds from the tournament go directly to Lady Cardinals Basketball and Coach Larry Tidwell's "Maintaining Academic Excellence" program, which provides academic resources for players and student assistants. Included in the resources are a dedicated study space, tutorial support, and summer school tuition.

"Providing our girls with the necessary assistance to succeed academically, and off the court, is integral to the success of our basketball program." Tidwell said. "This golf tournament is crucial to the funding of our `Maintaining Academic Excellence' program. The resources provided by that program helped our four seniors, Agnija Reke, Emily Spickler, Nikki Williams and Carrie Canoy graduate on-time in four years."
