Is it true that West Hardin is done for the year? If this is true, how do the games count...as forfeits??? or do they not count for/against the other records???

Also, does this mean they will go on UIL probation for two years? I hear that when something like this happens they are not able to have a team for the probationary period...?

They are done for the year, not enough kids to play.  My guess would be forfeits, but I don't know.

Man this is terrible, what is going on in WH?!  Their not even the smallest school in district, by a long shot!  This could be bad news with the UIL.

If you can't field a team UIL can't do anything about it I believe.

They will put you on probation. No playing for 2 years even if you have enough.

Not having enough players should keep them from any penalties.  This should be justification enough.

Schools can choose to not have a football team, or a volleyball team or a baseball or softball team, but once you do then the "not entering" clause seems to be a moot point. They did enter and as such penalties should be the only option the UIL can take.

Might not be fair to the players coming after, but it would seem to be the way it is.

I for one am still surprised that a school the size of West Hardin (only two years removed from 2A) can't field a team for baseball.

Read closely about after registering a team. It could effect them but most likely not. Not having enough players is sufficent. You can't make a kid participate.

Registering OK, what about starting a season and then cancelling it.

From the wording it sounds more like once you start you need to finish, but you can not start with cause.

I fear for WH that starting and then stopping may be trouble for them next year.

I do not think there will be any trouble for West Hardin Next year, as long as they have enough kids to play.  Leggett has battled this before over the past few years.  High Island was not able to field a team back in 85 and had to cancel their season before District play and then was able to play the next season.  I doubt UIL will punish WH for not having enough kids turn out to play.  The only way UIL will make a stink about it is if other Districts make formal complaints and follow the process.  I doubt that will happen.  There is no need!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watching my boys grow up, it seems that for their age range, baseball has not been very big in West Hardin.  All the kids that played regularly went to other cities or select ball. 

I hope that there won't be any penalty on them!

Any word on how 24-1A will handle this as far as will the west hardin games count as forfeits, therefore wins for the scheduled opponent or will they just be taken off the schedule and not count on the record at all?

I was told that the games count as a forfeit...with the team WH was scheduled to play winning 7-0 (1 run per inning for the team that won the forfeit).

The score would only be 1-0 for a forfeit.  They only give the lowest number of runs it would take to win a game.  Same goes for football, but it would be 2-0 for a forfeit.

The nfhs rule book states that a forfeit be recorded as 7 - 0, or one run for every inning you play by state adoption.  If a state association plays 9 inning games the forfeit would be 9 - 0.

All in all, its not a good thing for a school to cancel their schedule once the season has started...I hate it for WH...

Yeah it sux!  A couple of the kids really wanted to play and it had to frustrating for them to get all the way up to game day just to have it canceled.
