Football moves a step closer to reality at Lamar Monday afternoon when Ray Woodard and his staff put walk-on prospects through combine-type drills. Woodard says 60 prospective players, most of them from Southeast Texas, have signed up, but that 45-to-50 of them are probably eligible to participate in the drills. Lamar coaches have already been working out mid-year junior college signees on Tuesdays and Thursdays. None of the drills, by the way, are in pads. Lamar doesn’t have any pads or helmets at this point Woodard also said an announcement would be forthcoming soon on season ticket sales for when football kicks off in 2010 . . . Sounds like Cardinal basketball coach Steve Roccaforte won’t be leaving to hook back up with John Calipari at Kentucky. Roccaforte says he and Calipari talked at the Final Four, but wouldn’t elaborate on whether an offer was made. The third-year head coach says he’s totally focused on the upcoming season at Lamar and thinks fans will be impressed with a large incoming class of recruits. He says, however, he won’t announce any names until at least mid May . . . One member of Roccaforte’s coaching staff did have a firm offer to leave. Tic Price, however, after interviewing at Division II Virginia State, opted to stay at Lamar. That’s good new for Roccaforte. Price did a terrific job for him last year.

What do you think would be a good estimate on what season tickets will cost?
