LC-M’s thrower Reed nabs regional berths

BEAUMONT — Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Hayden Reed qualified for the Class 4A Region III Meet in both throwing events while Vidor senior Jared Williamson continued to shine in the high jump at the District 20-4A Track & Field Championships held at Beaumont West Brook High School Monday.

Reed finished second behind Ozen’s burly Jarrade Lee in both the shot put and discus.

Reed tossed the discus 142 feet, 2 1/2 inches and heaved the shot put 49-7.

Lee, who has led Southeast Texas the hole season won the discus (160-0) and the shot (49-8).

Williamson soared to 6-4 to capture the district title in the high jump. Livingston’s Dustin Harris also went 6-4 but Williamson had fewer misses.

On the girls’ side, Ozen’s A’Lexus Brannon joined Lee as the other double winner as the Lady Panther standout won both the long jump (19-3 3/4) and the triple jump (36-9 1/2).

For the LC-M girls, Maci Wilcox was sixth in the high jump and Danielle Cook was sixth in the pole vault. Destiny Arteaga qualified for the 100-meter hurdles and Ellen Williams qualified in the 200 meters for Thursday’s running finals, which start at 5 p.m. at West Brook’s Durley Stadium.

BOYS DIVISION

Triple jump : 1. Brennan Jackson, Central, 44-11; 2. Dustin Harris, Livingston, 44-7 1/4; 3. Keaton Parker, Livingston, 43-4 1/2.

High jump: 1. Jared Williamson, Vidor, 6-4; 2. Dustin Harris, Livingston, 6-4; 3. Dylan Richards, PN-G, 6-2.

Shot put: 1. Jarrade Lee, Ozen, 49-8; 2. Hayden Reed, LC-M, 49-7; 3. Kyle Gilliam, Lumberton, 49-0.

Discus: 1. Jarrade Lee, ozen, 160-0; 2. Hayden Reed, LC-M, 142-2 1/2; 3. Deon Brown, Central, 140-7 1/2.

Pole vault: 1. Kyler Cross, PN-G, 11-6; 2. Logan Schults, Livingston, 11-0; 3. Blaine Bourque, Nederland, 9-6.

3,200 meters: 1. Trent Fulk, Nederland, 10:50.23; 2. Trevor Martin, Nederland, 10:55.83; 3. Hunter Bradshaw, Lumberton, 11:00.09.

GIRLS DIVISION

Long jump: 1. A’Lexus Brannon, Ozen, 18-3 3/4; 2. Hayley English, PN-G, 17-2 3/4; 3. Jamie Narcisse, Central, 15-9 3/4.

Triple jump: 1. A’Lexus Brannon, Ozen, 36-9 1/2; 2. Sojourner Brown, Ozen, 34-9; 3. Jamie Narcisse, Central, 33-3 1/2.

High jump: 1. Dapne Tolbert, Central, 5-2; 2. Daylyn Harris, Livingston, 5-2; 3. Alicia Thevis, Nederland, 4-10.

Shot put: 1. Raegan Richard, Nederland, 38-11; 2. Alicia Thevis, Nederland, 35-4; 3. Megan McGee, Central, 34-9.

Discus: 1. Kimesa Lewis, Central, 103-10; 2. Alicia Thevis, Nederland, 97-7; 3. Kierra Williams, Central, 90-8 1/2.

Pole vault: 1. Leslie Beard, Lumberton, 9-0; 2. Britkne Gallagher, Nederland, 8-0; 3. Hannah Lancaster, PN-G, 7-6.

Just to make one correction, Hayden Reed is only a freshman for LCM.

We are so proud of his accomplishments in track this year, and look forward

to the next three track seasons. :)
