Dayton takes lead in 19-4A meet - Video Links added**

MONT BELVIEU – Chance Casey is back. And he’s ready for a Thursday night hurdles showdown with Dayton’s Cameron LaCour.

“He’s doing real good,†Crosby track coach Marty Murr said midway through Tuesday’s action at the District 19-4A track meet at Barbers Hill.

“His injury’s been healed. Of course, he worked on it.â€

Casey, who signed a football scholarship with Baylor University, missed the final part of the fall grid season with a hip injury and his rehabilitation was slow and measured.

The defending Class 4A state champion in both the high and intermediate hurdles wasn’t at full strength early this track season.

But he cleared 6-4 in the high jump during Tuesday’s field events, enough to finish second on misses to teammate A.J. Anderson, who also cleared 6-4.

“Chance has been running hurdles the last couple of weeks and he’s been as fast as he ran at state last year,†Murr said. “Of course, that LaCour kid from Dayton, he’s a beast, too.â€

LaCour was the Class 5A silver medalist in the 110-meter high hurdles, when he ran for Atascocita.

“Thursday, LaCour and Chance in the 110s, ought to be a great race,†Murr said. “It ought to be phenomenal.â€

The District 19-4A track meet, after wrapping up Tuesday evening with the 3,200-meter run and running preliminaries, wraps up Thursday with running finals set for a 5 p.m. start at Barbers Hill.

LaCour finished sixth in Tuesday’s high jump, clearing 5-10, and he came back for a third in the long jump.

His Dayton team led the boys’ competition after the field events, scoring 42 points to 38 for second-place North Forest. Barbers Hill was third with 37 points and Crosby fourth at 26.

Goose Creek Memorial scored four field event points, tied for seventh with Galena Park.

Dayton’s girls had even a bigger lead in their division, 48-37 over Kingwood Park. C.E. King was third at 28, with Barbers Hill at 27 in fourth and Crosby fifth at 23. Goose Creek Memorial’s girls were seventh with six points.

Besides scoring 16 points with the 1-2 high jump finish, Crosby got a second-place in the shot put from Braelon Green.

Dayton had a pair of winners in the boys’ field events, with John-Luke Lambright winning the pole vault at 12-6 and Tony Hill throwing 47-1-3/4 to take the shot put.

Barbers Hill’s Jeremy Neff won the discus with a 147-10 effort and got third-place finishes from Matthew Viverette in the triple jump, Jeremy Rodriguez in the shot put and Jessie Morton in the pole vault.

For the Dayton girls, Briana Sias won the high jump at 5-4, Hannah Bell won the long jump at 16-7 and Bria Emanuel won the shot put at 33-7. Also, Bell finished second in the triple jump and Emanuel was second in the discus.

Barbers Hill’s girls were led in the field events by third-place finishes by Macy Moore in the triple jump, Jessica Griffin in the pole vault and Samantha Hoffman in the discus.

It will be worth the trip to BH just to see Casey and LaCour compete in two races.  LaCour has the fastest time in the nation in the 110's and Casey looked plenty healthy to me in the prelims.  They ran in separate heats so tomorrow will be their first head-to-head.  Finals begin at 5 PM.

Just a side note... they went head to head in dayton last week. LaCour won. I know Casey is getting healthier (groin) every week. Tonight should be a great one in the 110's.

I'll predict LaCour to win handily in the 110's and Casey to do the same in the 300's. They definitely have their different strengths.
