QB contraversy in LC-M???

First off.... Competition is good if handled properly.

Second, wasn't Gonzalez a starting sophomore last year?

3rd, I know nothing about Z. Sonnier

Alot of factors would play into this

1. Age of the players.... having a QB for multiple years is good. (Adv. gonzalez) If sonnier is the same age then the adv. is not as big.

2. Ability of the players to play multiple positions... I know Gonzalez can, so may you put him at WR to   get Sonnier on the field. The more athletes on the field the better.

3. Is there a clear cut, better QB? Tangibles and intangibles included.

I hope this is the start of some controversy over EVERY position on the field at LCM.    ;D

Hunter Gonzales is a great athlete and the apparent quarterback coming back...but maybe Sonnier doesn't see it that way.  The competition is good for the program.

They are both sophomores and both good Qbs and Sonnier has been playing Qb just as long as Gonzales has. Either one could play WR because they are both great at it. Even tho Gonzales was Starting Qb last year things might change with Crouch here. So i dont know things might go either way.

Hell, the new coach has just started...and somebody wants to bring up a 'controversy'...this is a foolish post...almost as foolish as the liberal media reporting on your socialist President's dog...garbage like this trickles down to the kids and hurts the program

txstar,

Lighten up!  Nothing at all foolish about the post.  I see it as a positive situation for the team.  This isn't a T.O. vs Romo thing, just two very good young high school athletes competing for a position.  It's not "controversial"...it's competition.

Hey, but what do I know...I added a few extra bucks to my tax return to buy the President's dog some Milk Bones.    ;D

Is Hunter even doing any football right now since he is in baseball?

Both of these kids are hard working kids.  Competition is what makes great teams.  No player should have the attitude that a starting spot is guaranteed at any position.(not saying that Hunter feels this way)  If kids aren't constantly trying to improve to keep their starting spot then that is not a good sign for the program.

May the best QB win.

If Gonzales started last year then he has the advantage. As far as the "both good Qbs and Sonnier has been playing Qb just as long as Gonzales has" statement, it doesn't seem possible. Sonnier may have been a QB but not at the Varsity level.

Hunter can move up the road north about 5 miles!!!!!   ;D    We would love to have him!!!!!!!

Wo-s has a Qb that is better than both...Don't need him.

ummmm.... I think he was talking about Deweyville since WOS is south of LCM.   :o

That North/South thing trips some people up everytime.  ;D

Every position on the field should be up for grabs at the start of every season, and if someone is not performing they should be replaced .That healthy compition is what makes good teams great. Hunter is probably the best athlete to come through LCM in a few years. Good luck to them.jmo Two good QB's is a good problem to have.

He said the baseball coach and the football coach talk each morning to see what each other have going on during that particular days workout period.  Then they decide which direction Hunter should go.  I know most days he goes with football during the PE period and then to baseball after school.

Today as an example, Hunter went to football practice to practice the new offense for 45 minutes and then took his turn at batting practice for 10 minutes.  Sounds like a formula for success to me.  Good luck to Hunter.  He is great at juggling the football, the basketball, and the baseball.  I don't think anybody will take his position from him in any of the aforementioned sports.  If anybody does beat out Hunter that just means one thing for that sport. We are pretty dang good at qb and whatever position Hunter moves to.  Or we are pretty dang good at point gard and whatever position Hunter moves to.  Or we are pretty dang good in center field and whatever postion Hunter moves to.

Great to hear about the coaches getting on the same page. Atheletes should play as many sports as possible. Good example is Kirby Bellows at Ned. dont look like 2 sports are hurting his performance on the baseball field or the gridiron. ;D

    • Regardless of the offense, kids need a reason or purpose to play football. Normally, for most kids, football is something they genuinely enjoy playing, because most players won’t be suiting up on Saturdays. At the end of the day, the most successful teams have kids and coaches that genuinely love the game and get joy and fulfillment playing it.  Vidor’s two current biggest issues are the lack of appeal to play the game and a lack of community support. The offense has been the same for years, and Mathews did a great job of getting the kids and community behind his teams year in and year out. Vidor’s whole identity was being a team you hated to play because you knew you were in for a long physical night. That made the game fun for the kids who played, and they took a lot of pride in it. Currently, I would argue that the toxic attitude of the community towards the offense and Dubois in general is the biggest thorn in the team’s side. The need for instant gratification from fans is what is fueling it all. When the players go home or out in the community and hear: how bad the offense is, how bad the defense is, or how bad the coaching is, the players will begin to lose pride in the program, and the game is no longer fun. This leads to discipline issues and players quitting. Vidor has lost their identity and Dubois and the offensive scheme isn’t the culprit. The Vidor community needs to leave their objections of who they hired at the door and let the man work if they wanna be successful in the future.
    • We will see i heard they pretty dam good 3 losses but all to great teams
    • Yes. May have been Jimmies. What I’m seeing is a lot more teams going back to more ‘traditional style’ offenses. These things go in cycles, and it’s very difficult for all but mega schools to consistently find QB’s who can really be effective with a true spread type offense year in and year out. I’d venture to guess most schools have an outstanding QB that can win a game almost on their own only every few years if that, and that’s what you need for the ‘high flying’ spreads. So coaches go for the O’s that they can groom the majority of kids to be successful running, and take advantage of the superstar’s skills more within that O when they get them.
    • Always a great game… with big Ned on the road to far, I’m going to attend this one. Give me PAM! Tank going to have a 3 sack game 😎😎
    • That last one cost me $50
