BC's Miller nets 3A State Tennis berth

BRYAN — Bridge City’s Meredith Miller punched her ticket to the Class 3A State Tennis Tournament by placing second in the Class 3A Region III Championships in Bryan Tuesday.

Miller toppled Robinson’s Courtney Lowery 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals and fell to regional champion Brittany Fausett 6-0, 6-0 in the finals.

The top two players move on the the State Tournament, which will be held May 11-12 in Austin.

Several Orange County tennis players shined in day one of the Class 3A Region III Tennis Tournament Monday.

In girls’ singles, Bridge City’s Miller defeated Madisonville’s Alexis Kaisharis 6-0, 6-4 in the first round and then she downed Center’s Erika Cordray 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, which are today.

The West Orange-Stark boys doubles duo of Dillin Lanting and Sam Webb also have advanced to the semifinals.

They defeated Lufkin Hudson’s Adam Jarvis and Jonathan Lynn 6-0, 6-4 in the first round and then knocked off Gilmer’s Daniel Arrington and Jeremy Payne 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-4.

In boys singles, Orangefield’s Bradley Worthy toppled Longview Spring Hill’s Hayden Burns 6-0, 6-2 in the first round and fell to Robinson’s Tucker Mueck 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

In girls singles, Orangefield’s Hannah Parker topped Liberty’s Madison Moody 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the first round before bowing to Cameron’s Brittni Fausett 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
