Guest Darren33 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 If your daughter is eligible to play 8U in 2010, you should keep her in 8U for another year. If your daughter is playing Little League, you should find an ASA program in your area. It is much more competitive than Little League. They have ASA programs in Beaumont (Spindletop), Vidor, Orange, Nederland, Bridge City Orangefield, Port Neches, etc - basically anywhere you need. I can promise there is a huge difference between Little League and ASA softball. I'm from Lumberton where they only offer Little League Softball, and I travel to Beaumont for League play because it is much better and much more competitive. I still can't understand why Lumberton won't change their girl program to ASA softball, but so be it. I now coach my own Select Team to get my girls the experience they need (on top of the Beaumont League to get them pitching time). If there is a Select 8U team coming on-line, then great - but you will have to travel to Houston for games.
B-A-G FAN Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 10u is soon enough to start the travel game . And remember just because your child may shine in her league ball ,doesnt mean she will be a starter or one of the top players in travel ball . Unless you join a daddy ball team and they are out there ,every player was a star on there team and for some that is hard to handle but this will only make them better . If you are serious about this move ,let her go work out with a select team if the coach will allow and make your decision . If you push to hard at this age she will learn to hate the game and like many, many girls I have seen, just lose interest even though they may be very talented .
